Unfortunate Deaths

Post by Kringin »

I in the past have noted that sometimes when there is too much lag the server kicks me out. Unfortunately sometimes for me it is in a dungeon(cave). I am alive at the moment i had been kicked out. When i have logged back in i log in dead and a monster near me, it is quite annoying when i die and i dont even know it. I always log outside a dungeon whenever i have to log; but sometimes i just cant help it and it really bugs me to see myself die

Please do something.

Exploring a dungeon is dangerous for a character. Deaths hide in every shadow.
But the real question is:
"What should a server programmer do, when your connection is simply bad and lagging due some heavy traffic, which is not caused by the server?"

think of it as blacking out in real life.
you have a "real life in illarion" some disease that strikes at anytime and "blacks you out" in illarion (leaving you defenceless on the ground for monsters to pick on.. and if in a character argument or fight, the same result may happen too). so each time your in a town, city, marsh, beach, or dungen, remember that disease you have and choose wisely whether you should "go there or here" ect.. or not.

there isnt much else you can do from DEATH in the game........ you just have to... heh, shall i say..

LIVE with it.

Lag deaths are EXTREMLY annoying, I agree. But, we have no control over internet lag.

If your character is standing there being wailed on, and isnt' doing anything, how is the game to know if you are lagging, or simply ... umm.. (at first I was going to put stupid, but that would probably offend someone ).

Heres some tips to ease lag, One even if you have a fast computer you could still be using all availible ram so to help with this dont play music, dont run unneccsary programs, dont leave programs running in the background (( use ctrl alt delt to get rid of some of those )) Also make sure your internet setting are set correctly sometimes you may have them set default low.... Me i am using a OOLLLDDD 266 mhz proccesor laptop and lag HARDLY ever bothers me and i use these little hints. let me know if this helps ya any.

What i was suggesting was that make the monster neutral to the characters that just log in for a short period of seconds, that would definately do something.
(that was my point)

So you could cross the dangerous places only by loggin in, use the 5 secs time of being unattackable, log out, log back in, use the 5 sec of being unattackable .... and so on.

You get my point ?

I think that would be very tedious and only the most pathetic of scum would try it, besides, its much more fun when you can be attacked, my useful suggestion to help prevent lag is get a better ISP, I used to have a 56k and I didnt lag on that.

Good luck with your problems,

I think that two or three seconds should be enough, but maybe in these couple seconds you should not be able to move either. It could be turned off or on by a player depending on their internet connection, if they use dial-up it could give the game some time to load and the lag subside.

I know the feeling. Almost all dial up providers these days give you a limit these days. So its always best to check ur time left before entering a cave or some such. But There are the times when ur line drops (and its always, ALWAYS when your in sudden danger.) Then when you log back in your dead before your screen is active.

I Like the idea of beeing invunrable for 3 seconds whilst you log in. (and come on I mean realy who would bother loging in and out for the 3 second bonus, it wont happen.)

But I ask... when you do log out does your char stay in game for maybe a second or two after your screen has gone black? meaning ur dead before you log in, OR... does your char appear in game for a second when you log in before your screen loads up. Meaning your alive until you log in then your killed in that second. Do you understand what im saying?

If the later is the case then the 3 second thing would be a joy to behold. If not then....guess there are alote of people with thin blood prone to fainting when in danger.

You people really missed my point here. Let me simplify. E.x I am fighting , every once in a while i get kicked off, I dont have lag. When i log in, the creature is hacking away at me when i am logging in; thus leaving me dead.
There is a way to prevent lag deaths, i have tried many things, if you want to know just ask.
