To End a Life

Post by Lance Thunnigan »

Lance sat there in bed, the day just beginning; and thought.
He thought about his life, and everything that had happened.
He had lost two mothers, a father, many friends... He couldn't deal with it anymore.
So he made a decision, a decision to end it for good. To bring his mind peace.

He got out of bed and took a parchment and quill, wrote a couple of lines and stuffed the parchment into his bag.
He slowly made his way to the taverne, his mind made up. He was going to do it.

As he reached the entrence of the taverne, he asked,
"Would anyone here be kind enough to loan a boy coin for a mug?"
After he said this, a woman had tossed him some coin. He grinned.

He walked up to Borgate after thanking the woman and bought a mug.
Inside his cloak pockets was a vial. It was filled with a foul looking red liquid, that seemed to sting the eyes by just looking upon it. He poured it in.

After a moment, he looked to the woman and smiles gingerly.
"Thank you for helping me ma'am.. Helping me end the pain."
He raised the mug to his lips, and drank the liquid quickly.

For a moment, he could not see and he was beginning to become very hot.
As he looked about, he suddenly clutched his stomach and fell from the stool onto the floor with a mdoerate 'thump.'

He looked around, unable to see.. His eyes clouded over, and he felt as if he was floating..

»Quick! Quick, we've got to get out!« Gryphius desperately shouted at the boy whose body already writhed in agony.

What a fatal mistake he had done: Back in the tavern, he merely took him for a drunk - a young fella, experiencing his first mug of beer, being unable to hold it, dropping from the stool in consequence. But soon after Gryphius had brought him to the hospital, his condition rapidly deteriorated - yet Gryphius failed to see the devilry that did its foul work inside the boy's body, laying down there in the bed, shivering all over. Only after the poor one began to spit small spatters of blood all around, the horrible truth became obvious: A poison consumed the boy's body from within, making him suffer horrible pain.

Panicked and horrified, Gryphius carried him outside, trying to make him vomit to get the poison out of his stomach - achieving the only result of allowing the blood to flow out even more freely. Neither Djironnyma nor Shandariel were able to hinder it: Slowly life escaped the young boy's body, and Gryphius couldn't do anything about it. All he could do was sitting there, watching him die. He had seen it before...but seeing death taking one so young was something more horrendous than he could have possibly imagined.

Djironnyma had found the vial of poison. Whatever drave that young man to end his life so soon after its beginning, and in such a gruesome manner, must have been an inner suffering beyond imagination. Alongside with a firnis blossom, only a small note was in his possession, reading as follows:

If you shall find this at any time, then I've done it and I'm gone.
All I ask is you tell Rainny Corulas that I am sorry, and goodbye.
Do nothing special for me, just cremate me.

Would he have been able to safe him from death if he had reacted more swiftly? That was a question Gryphius kept asking himself while carrying the boy's lifeless body outside the town, in order to fulfill one of his last wills: Committing his body to the flames. After dedicating Lance some last words, for no one else was present at the funderal, Gryphius set a fire on his flesh, watching the once handsome young man being consumed by the flames. He kneeled down before the roaring fires, mumbling a silent prayer. One more thing was still to be done: Telling Rainny about this sad occurrence. Although he had never known that boy, Gryphius felt it was his duty.
