BTW: Is the rotting time somehow fixed to an item's quality or condition?

From what I understood, every specific minutes, everything rots.
e.g: every .. 10 minutes.. lets say:

00:10
00:20
00:30
00:40
00:50
01:00
01:10
etc..
and the cycle goes on

at each one of those hours, everything on the ground will rot.. I think..

No exactly.

The rot cycle runs every 3 minutes ( not exactly )

Then this happens, all Items on the ground looses one point of the "rot value"

if the rot value becomes 0. The item rots.
This value doesn't increase again, when you pick the item up.

I see...
I wasen't that far ;)
And how many "rot points" does an item start with.. or maybe its full value, and how much of that value is lost each 3 minutes if it was on the ground?

Most items I think have 3, just a guess from personal experience.

So, when I put my new Uber Sword of Eternal Justice on the ground to show it someone and it's at the time the rot cycle takes place, my sword has only 1 "rot point" left?
And when I show it later to another person and the same happens, my item will rot although it was only some seconds on ground?

In general: An item will rot anyway after ca. 6 min on ground?

6-9 Minutes, yes (if the 3 minutes Nitram wrote down are right, I overheard the system works a bit different, but I have no clue as always ;-) ).

And yes, your uber sword can rot if you just show it to 3 friends.

That's the way it works currently. I can't say I like this system. I once suggested to raise the "rot points" (known as wear-value) to 4, but this was declined / not done.

I do not like that you may get punished because of putting an item on the ground at the wrong time.
Is it possible that an item gets two rotting cycles?
So, you put an item on ground e.g. 5 sec before rotting time, but it will lose a point after the next cycle? (Something like "if rotting cycle in <X0 sec then ignore this rotting cycle".)

so with the rot system simple buying and reselling can use up the rot-resistance of an item.

suggestion:
one can put things on a table.
if tecnically possible, it might be an idea, to suspend rotting for items put on a table.

then selling items does not harm those items.

I seem to remember that at some point in time there were plans for certain tiles that prohibited rot cycles taking place.

In addition to tables it would be good it things such as chests had this feature, to allow for guild supplies...hidden cache's and all other kinds of lootable goodness.
