- Monster balancing -

Post by Thorvald »

German version below / Deutsche Version darunter.

This thread is about 'Monster balancing'

We would like to know which monsters are too strong or too weak in your opinion.
Keep in mind that you have to see it from two sights.
  • or once from the sight of a Newbie
  • and then from the sight of a more skilled Char.
Creatures like flies, mummies should be balanced more into the direction that new made chars are able to take them. While creatures like skeletons, red skeletons etc. should become once more a challenge.

If you post please don't only write f.e. "Skeletons are too strong", but try to be a bit more detailed. As for example: "The skeletons are too fast so you can't run from them. The concusion skill is to high - when they use a warhammer you can't win at all" etc.

What we are trying to achieve are:
  • "newbie-friendly" monsters
  • and real challenges.
- Thank you for your help and please stay on topic. For every unasked criticism, go here ;)

Also zB. "Die Skelette sind zu schnell, man kann nicht von ihnen weglaufen. Der Concusion-skill ist zu hoch. Wenn sie mit einem Kriegshammer kämpfen, kann man nicht gegen sie ankommen" etc.

Was wir erreichen wollen ist folgendes:
  • "newbie"-freundliche Monster
  • und echte Herausforderungen.

- Danke für eure Hilfe und bitte bleibt 'on topic'. Für nutzlose Kritik geht und postet hier ;)

Flies

Post by Richard Cypher »

First off I just want to make a complaint for noobs. I have a strong character who I have played for a while. Yet when I fight say 3 or more groups of flies I have a chance of dying. 4 or more and I am dead. Flies should not hurt so bad. I had Lor-Angur Guardian's Armor and I almost died from fighting 3 groups of flies. I think they should do much less damage considering they are flies not uber powerful monsters. I mean mummies do less damge to me when I fight 4 of themin a group. Even three skeletons I can take. But barely 3 flies. Something needs to be fixed.

The mummies are still a little too hard for newer players, I think. Especially one 'variety', but I can't tell for sure which one it is. I hear people say they made new chars and had no problem with the mummies, but I don't see how.. Maggie has yellowish-green skill with both her weapon and with parry, but two mummies at once is dangerous except for the weakest ones.

I haven't dared go after skeletons or other harder beasties, if mummies are such a challenge to her.

I would say that the mummies are just a litle bit strong from a newbie perspective. When I go there with Salkamearian armour, a helmet and metal greaves and a good ornate tower shield, a single mummy takes a fair amount of health from me. They seem to land nearly all their blows (despite the fact I have turquisoe parry and dodge). Also the hand wielding mummies seem much better than the dagger wielding ones, because they do much more damage with each hit. However my attacks seem alright against them.

The mummies with just swords hurt the most. Not the mummies with swords and daggers, daggers, or fists. Skeletons are pretty easy too compared to how they used to be.

The flies are really strong creatures. Their attack is way too high. I can't dodge most of the times (with a green dodge skill) and i can't parry not even once (light blue - green skill). Their health and dodge are good.
They also seem to do a lot of damage.. I have no problem defeating a mummy, but a sworm of flies has a fair chance at killing me.
The flies should be weak so that the newb chars can train their dodge and their parry, not to be in danger of being killed by only one swarm..
The mummys seem fine - decent amount of health, parry and dodge. Their dmg is a little higher.

Scrap my original post, it now seems that mummies are easy (since changing to double axe), and I think skeletons are probably too easy also.

Maybe it's not that they're too easy, but perhaps because double axes have always been ridiculously overpowered.

I would'nt say so, because hand wielding mummies do more damage to my char the the slashing skeletons, and about the same as the warhammer skeletons.

My boy Bravin is a hunter but has been sleeping a lot lately. He usually hunts wolfs or the panthers for a little coin but now for the life of him he cant kill a single panther. They seem to do way to much damage. They never miss and he has nearly yellow dodge and green concussion. I would try it with my new char but I believe he wouldn’t last more than a two or three attacks

i dont agree, that flies are right at the moment.
how well trained must a char be, to cross a swamp?

a char in full leather, top strength, top constitution, with turkoise dodging and turkoise slashing will loose about half his blood, before he even kills one swarm of flies.

flies seemed strong for my newest character for all of about one day. if your careful and at least of moderate armor (chain is fine) you can manage to gain enough defensive skill to manage some flies.

flies strnght seems about right considering each 'flie' is a swarm of biting animals, not just singular one.

mummies seem fine as well, mummies using wrestling aren't actually that strong. it takes some training you deal with them (a bit more then flies) but the problem is that there fast, and two handed weapons are slower (obvisously) a weapon and shield make the job much easier, but noobs dont have acess to many of the better buyables in the beginning of the game.

skeletions, they need a few more hit points in the worst way. i was two days into the game and i could take them out with hand to hand in about 4 hits, OR maybe to make them tougher, increase there weapon skill and give him one handed weapons. alot of times it seems unless the monster is of a higher difficulty (ogres, gnolls goblins etc) that using a two handed weapon can be a disadvantage.

Goblins are really tough for some reason. compared to everything else i've fought (currently character has mid range wrestling skill) they seem like tanks. they block more competently then ogres or gnolls. and for a newb that would equal a death sentence. prehaps in this case there simply tough vs wrestling.

Gnolls need to be stronger in general...the end.

Demons deliver too much damage. An outmaxed char cannot stand more than 3-4 blows, having best attributes, skills and high quality equipment. A normal char with average skills and average equipment goes down very fast. Demons can also cross lava tiles and move extremely fast on them.

I believe that Giant Hornets deliver too much damage.

I also believe the skeletons need more HP.

it's not the damage its the fact that most weapons can't even touch them (they drop in about 2-4 hits IF you can hit them) massive agility makes sense though so i can't see anything wrong with it.

Mummys could use a teeny weeny bit less damage done.

other than that, they're ok, and they're quite slow so you can run away

The current fighting system itself is fine. The skill that needs to be lowered is wrestling. It is this skill that makes wolves stronger then skeletons. Wrestling, regardless of how little skill, (it appears), that you cannot parry or dodge it as often as you parry a weapon. Thus whenever you fight a character that uses wrestling (mummies or wolves) they seem very strong and cause serious damage to your character when they gang up on you. Stephen Rothman cannot for the life of him beat 3 wolves at one time simply because they all do damage.

It is my opinion that the current fighting system and monster stats are fine; it is wrestling that needs to be weakened some, or perhaps weapons need to start hurting more. Up to you fellas.

wrestling is fine. but wrestling is different for every creature that uses it. wolves are pretty strong, but my character using Wrestling was parried every 90% of the time when he had a match with Siltaris. wolves strrenght needs to be lowered but not wrestling in general. though i find them fine where they are, there not RL wolves there illarion wolves, they could be stronger then dragons if the god's made them that way

p.s. if you have trouble with wrestling mummies. that kinda makes you a bitch they're weak. even at constitution of 12.

Don't know which skills your char has, but Sil had a big shield and is really good at parry. I would wonder if she would not parry your cute little punches

I think mummys makes too much damages, it surely is pretty harsh for n00bs if my character with 17 constitution and full fighting attributes and skill gets hurt by dagger mummy.

Yes Arameh!

Sword mummies are ok funny enough, its the dagger and wrestling mummies that do way too much damage. mummies are meant to be for the n00bs,

Even Retlak gets pwned by 3 wrestling mummies.

Dagger mummys hurts nearly as much as skeletons, and wresling mummys hurts MORE than skeleton, I would say that dagger ones should be 2x weaker and wresling ones about 3x, needs slight changes.

Sword mummies are fine, they can be handled easily, which is nice, but there the dagger and wrestling mummies come (in many numbers even)

and my char with 18 constitution cannot last 5 seconds

It's true. Sword mummies are nothing, they can't even scratch my orc. Dagger and wrestler mummies? They can actually be a danger in larger numbers.

Indeed. I've faced demon skeletons that aren't as strong as a few of the dagger mummies.

There was this white skeleton in the jail earlier today. It was really weak and nubby, maybe you should look into that. It was a mage one too.
