Necromancy?

Post by Gilthas »

I just wanted to ask everyone a question. Why is necromancy defined as a dark art? Why can't anyone use it? I just want everyone's opinion on the subject.

And he is an undead whorshipper of an evil goddess. His soul is cursed and the gods spit on creatures like him.

So yes, if you want to take him as a shining example.

I see no problem with necromancy so long as it is used responsibly. Afterall, it is the art of Cherga and surely none would want to offend her.

If you want to say for example, a seance to communicate with spirits is necromancy, then you might be able to say it is not all dark magic. However it is a term generally used in Gobiath to reflect summoning undead creatures to harm people. This is why I consider it a dark art. Furthermore necromancy is more loosly used by some when it comes to the ability to suck souls of the living to keep themselves undead.

If I can add to what I think Stephen is trying to say, and was saying originally with the Temple of Bjolmur, is that we should not condemn people for saying they are 'necromancers' , or for any label pepole give themselves. It is our actions that truely define us, and it may be best to praise or condemn people for their actions, rather then how they label themselves.

Necromancy is the school of magic from which the healing arts originated, the use off this art is in itself not evil saying such would imply that a sword is evil or other mundane arguements. The person behind the art or object is the one whom dictates its use.

You are wrong, think about your words. All necromancers a followers of Cherga or Moshran that means , they have the wrong god. Cherga is not so bad which Moshran , but when you will learn necromancy , you need the bless from both and thats the way to get evil and killing people. May you think thats not right , but try it to learn and you will get evil. Its right that the person behind the art or object is the one whom dictates its use, but a other example , Ariges Feringwood , you can asked the membership of the the Grey Rose , i heared that he was a member , thought that necromancy is right and turned into a lich.
So you should think about necromancy , this is not for people i think , its just for gods or other , higher people , not for normal people , they all will get evil...

Idiot. You know nothing of what you speak about. You need not cherga or moshrans blessing to persue the art of necromancy. You turn 'evil' by your own choice, the magic doesnt change you. Furthermore, you will only become a lich if you so choose to become one.

On the contrary. A necromancer who worships a god may recieve godly powers. A necromancer who serves himself is limited to his own skill.

White Magic, Dark magic....

Can one exist without the other?

I believe just as the spring brings our crop, and Fall harvests them, we need winter's embrace to renew the cycle. Without winter, there would be no spring. Without Fall, there would be no winter.

In my short time in Gobiath, contrary to logic, I have been afraid of some "White" Mages, and comforted by some "Dark" ones. Not that I lean to the dark, in fact I am in the middle, and from the middle both extremes are 'scary'. However, you can't judge a seed by it's shell. It's the 'potential' inside that counts. A Red Head is an ugly plant and quite sour when eaten, but in the hands of a druid, it can save lives.

I agree with Lauranthalas when he suggested a sword isn't evil, but the user. In the middle, we see mages, both white and dark, often abuse their powers, so what is the difference? I say a balance of both is needed and crucial, and together they cancel each other.

I don´t say that when you use it you turn into a lich , it will get faster when you use the magic of necromancy , thats what i mean... and when you will get a real necromancer you need the bless from cherga or moshran , i know that, you think you get the magic of necromancy with a bone and a little bit blood? You´re the idiot...
