Rough Draft of laws

Post by Cliu Beothach »

Before we get a guard, we must make basic laws so those who wish to protect the town know what they must do.

§1. Ban and Jailing

When one law is broken, the perpatrator will be warned. After the warning, the corresponding punishment of the law will be enacted.

§2. Trials

Trials will exist for contreversial issues (such as claims by a 'victim'). A magistrate will coordinate the trial giving the claims on the board. The public will be able to give their advice and interest in each claim. A select board of citizens will then decide who is guilty and will be punished accordingly

§3. Abuse and Attacks

Forms of excessive verbal abuse without much purpose but to provoke will have a 3 day ban. As well, forms of violence and assault will issue a 3 day ban.

§4. Thievery

Those caught stealing will be asked to give back the item and banned for three days. If one is claimed to be a thief, a trial will be held.

§5. Free Food/Supplies

The trees inside the walls are to aid citizens. One will not cut them, a 1 day ban will be issued of those being caught.

Anyone destroying tools will be banned for three days.

§6. Repeated Offense

A person being found to keep breaking the laws will be jailed for a time suited fit.

If they continue to repeat offenses, they will be banned until they can prove that they will stop breaking the laws.

§7. Military actions

The captain of the guard will be in charge of military actions, though he/she must take advisement from the two other officials (magistrate and governor) before taking an attack. The two officials may stop the attack if they both feel it isn't necessary.

§8. Purpose of the Guard

The guard is created to uphold the laws of the land. They must protect those within the wall, firstly and foremost.

§9. Purpose of the Magistrate

The magistrate is here to interepret laws and spearhead trials. He/She will decipher disputes over the language of the laws. As well, he will work with the governor to draft new laws.

§10. Purpose of the Governor

The governor is here to create laws and coordinate the town. Advising the other two officials. He has the power to coordinate votes and events of the town.

§11. Power of Impeachment

When an official or subordinate is found not to be doing their job, or even breaking a law, a citizen may bring up a statement. The statement should list why he/she feels the official has done wrong and will enact a vote. The vote CAN strip the powers of the official if the official is blatantly disregarding their duties or breaking the laws.

Other statements such as contreversial laws or actions can be used to display social distress. If there is enough, the action or law will be dealt with accordingly.

Those are the basic laws as of now. Before they become official I would like to post them to see if anyone disagrees. Seeing as we must work fast, the laws will not be made official if there is too much distress.

After this is made official, newer votes will have a full vote to make the law official.

By the end of the 25th of Irmas, the laws will be official. If anyone disagrees with them, they can bring up a statement regarding which law.

Respectfully,

How does §1 work? If I attack someone, will I be warned first?

Assault and violence (maybe thievery, too) within Troll's Bane territory should be strictly forbidden, so the punishment should be strictly harder then the punishment for abusing.

All in all the most sounds good for the start.

Well, if it is a blantant attack and well coordinated, one could skip the warning. In certain circumstances, of course it may be necessary to stop the threat.

If you warn the attacker and he immediately disobeys, then he will be punished.
