The Legacy of Dyluck
Chapter 1: The Hero Appears
Part VI
Unexpected Revelation

When Dyluck reached the town, he found many people in a huge commotion. He asked a local shopkeeper what was going on. The shopkeeper told him that some townsfolk saw a huge fleet of ship heading towards our island. The townsfolk headed towards the southwest shore to see why they were here, and some brought their weapons with them for fear that this was an invasion of some sort. After hearing about this, Dyluck headed towards the southwest shores to see what was going. If there was going to be any danger to the town, he was glad he did not leave it like the stranger told him.

When Dyluck reached the place where the ships had landed, he managed to make his way to the front of the crowd just as the soldiers began to pile out of the ships. The man in golden armor made his way down the plank ono the shore and looked around at the crowd of townsfolk watching them. He froze when he saw Dyluck, then the other soldiers did too. Then the man walked towards Dyluck with a big smile on his face and put his arms on the shoulders of a surprised Dyluck. “Brother! So there you are! We’ve found you at long last!”

“What!? Brother?” gasped a surprised Dyluck. “What do you mean? Who are you?”

“Who am I? Why I’m your brother Byron of course! Don’t you remember me?”

“No, I… I don’t remember anything about my past” replied a still stunned Dyluck.

“Our father is the great Emperor Raghoron Edina, almighty ruler of all of the Edinian Empire, and you are his son and my brother, Prince Dyluck Edina! Don’t you remember any of that?” Byron asked anxiously.

“No I’m sorry, I can’t remember anything.” Dyluck answered sadly. “But, is everything you’re telling me true? Are you really my brother?”

“Of course brother!” said Byron as he puts his arm around Dyluck’s shoulder. “You really don’t remember, Dyluck? Do you have amnesia? No matter, let us go home to Edin now, I’m sure you’ll remember everything once our healers take a look at you. Father will be delighted to see you again.”

But Dyluck shook his head, “No, I’m sorry. I can’t come back to Edin with you. I’ve been here as long as I can remember, and now all my family and friends are here. I can’t leave them, especially when I was already away from them for some months. Although I’m greatful to you for telling me so much about my past, I can’t go back with you yet, even though I’m curious to learn more about by past and my home. There’s still a lot I need to do here, and this is where I want to stay for now.”

Byron looked at Dyluck for a moment and then nodded, “I understand, my brother. If you really want to stay here, then so be it. If one day you should decide to come back to Edin, just sail north of here and use this map.”

He handed Dyluck a map and continued, “Wherever you land on the continent, they will know the name of Edin and someone can tell you how to get home. It saddens me that you won’t be returning home with us this time, but I was glad to see you again. Farewell, my brother.”

“Goodbye brother” replied Dyluck with a smile as he shook his brother’s hand.

After taking one last glance at the surrounding, Byron turned around and headed back onto the ship, as did all the soldiers. They set sail and resumed their voyage north back home.
The crowd of townsfolk began to disperse, while some who heard the long unknown past of Dyluck revealed, gathered around him with questions. He answered them with a smile on his face as he walked back towards the markets with them, thinking happily of the events that had just transpired, meeting his brother, and learning of his origin and clues to his past.

Already, Dyluck had forgotten the prophecy of the mysterious stranger.....

Meanwhile, back on the deck of a massive ship headed back to Edin, Prince Byron stood looking out towards the horizon. The man in the wizard’s cloak standing behind him takes a step closer and speaks. “Are we really going to just leave Prince Dyluck here?”

“Hmph.” the prince in golden armor turned around, “Of course not. It would be a waste to just leave him here in this filthy hovel. Once we get back to Edin, we’ll bring the Archmage back here. I’m sure he’ll be able to restore his memory. Then once my brother is back to his old self, I’m sure he’ll see things differently.”

As the prince walked back to his cabin, he stopped for a moment. “Send a few spies back to the island, and keep an eye on what happens there.”

“I understand, your highness,” replied the man in the wizard’s cloak and he stepped back and bowed.....

The Legacy of Dyluck
Chapter 1: The Hero Appears
Part VII
Seven Stones To Set The Stage

Dyluck reminisces to himself...

At last, the task was completed. The seven stones, created during his disappearance, had finally been distributed to their proper guardians...

The Stone of Courage, now in depths of the dragon's lair...

The Stone of Friendship, now with Franjel Salem Long of the Knights...

The Stone of Love, now with Xaveria, servant of Sirani...

The Stone of Wisdom, now with Damien, elder of the Order...

The Stone of Kindness, now with Kalypse of the Elves...

The Stone of Faith, now amongst the High Council of the Rangers...

The Stone of Hope, now in the hands of Sabrina, my very own beloved...

The seven stones, when brought together, will have the power to break my seal on the Mana Well. They were created so that if someday a threat so great arises to Illarion that the Magic Sword sealed inside the well is needed, it could still be retrieved, even if I have already passed away. But, the power to take such a powerful sword should not rest in the hands of any single individual. The one who will be worthy of the sword should have the traits of a hero. These traits, courage, friendship, love, wisdom, kindness, faith, and hope, I have chosen for it. The one to wield the sword must collect the stones from their guardians by proving to them that they posses each of these traits. This hero, along with the Magic Sword, will hopefully destroy any evils will come to us. In this way, I hope to protect by friends and family, even long after I'm gone....

How long it has been since she has spent a night wih hr love.. her belly full and round kept her immobile for the most part. It was almost as if she could hear her unborn childs heartbeat within her own ears and as her.. just as anxious to be brought into the new world.

Despite her anticipation she also feared many things from stories she had heard from the women.. and Dyluck has been barely home.

The only thing he'd spoken to her in a fort night was "Keep this safe" as he had handed her a small stone. He'd left befoe his words could finnish echoing in the chamber and Sabrina's anger flared tossing the stone at the closed door.

She sank her head into her pillow sobbing for a moment then sat up with a small sigh realizing how weak she seemed.

"Dyluck, I love you.. no matter how utterly irrating you can be." and with a small smile at memories she stared into the fire wondering when this man curse would leave her and be replaced by a son.. or daughter oto call hr own.

The Legacy of Dyluck
Chapter 1: The Hero Appears
Part VIII
The Child Of Dyluck

Deep into the night, the door creaks open as Dyluck comes into the room. He walked softy across the room to where Sabrina lay sound asleep, with a small candle still flickering on the table. He pulled the blanket more tightly around her to keep her warm and then planted a soft kiss on her forehead. He knelt down next to her bed, placing a hand on her belly. It felt so warm. Will it be a boy or a girl he wondered. Standing up, Dyluck pulls a chair next to Sabrina's bed and sits down. He opens a book that he found at the library, titled: Your Adolescent Daughter And You

"Your daugther will have mood swings the likes of which you have never seen before. She will cry on cue to get what she wants, and it will work. Your only options are to buy her new clothes or buy yourself new armor."

Maybe I'm thinking a little too far ahead thought Dyluck. He reads a little longer and then falls alseep in the chair, and dreams.

In his dream, he sees himself standing in front of a beautiful garden, with Sabrina, smiling and holding a baby boy in her hands. He puts and hand on the baby's soft face.
He looks just like me, how handsome! I'm sure he'll grow up to be big and strong too.
Maybe he'll be a great smith or a wise scholar someday.
Maybe he'll be a magnificent wizard or a brave warrior someday.
Maybe he'll be a hero someday.....

The calm before the storm

Post by Sabrina »

She had been feeling better lately, the sickness seeming to have disappeared though she still had a nasty fever. Being more alert she began to miss Dyluck more and more, for she hadn't seen him at home nor has anyone seen him in town for almost a week.
With a strong resolve she pulled herself out of bed and made herself eat something which also seemed to help her spirits.
A gentle kick from her unborn cast a smile to her face as she slung on her cloak "which she could no longer fasten properly" and she headed into town to carry on some long awaited chores and hopefully hear something of her love.

He fell to the ground with a thump as the orc struck him across the face yet again with his fist.

The young boy winced from the blow as he pushed himself back up with the aid of his Flame Rod. The orc approached again as the other two orcs behind laughed and sneered. This time the orc drew his scimitar and the boy barely raised his rod in time to block the initial strike. But the orc easily deflected it aside and swung his sword again. The boy let out a sound of pain as the sword left a deep cut in his left arm, nearly dropping his rod. Another blow from the orc's fist sent the boy falling to the grass, clasping his injured arm.

Writhing in pain, holding his arm, the boy looked around the clearing hopelessly. How could he have been so unlucky to get ambushed by three orcs patrols way out here in the forests? Why did the gods deal him this horrible fate? He heard the orc approaching again, then his face clamped to the ground by the orc's boot and a sharp blade pressed against his neck.

It's all over, the boy thought to himself. There's nothing I can do.... I'm going to die here in this forest... The boy closed his eyes helpessly, ready to meet his doom at his young age.

"Not so tough as your father are you?" the orc sneered as the other two behind him laughed.

His eyes shot open again. Father...
"Any last words?" the orc growled, pushing his blade against his neck
Father... I must find my father..... and go home with him where my sister is waiting for us.... she's lost mother already.... I won't lose father too! I can't die here in this place like this!

The orc took his blade away from his neck. "Time to finish you off boy!"

No! I can't die yet! His eyes rolled around desperately burning with a desire to survive. Then he found it.... there in the highest branches of the tree above them, an small pinecone dangling loosely. Would it fall past all the other branches and land right on the orc? It was his only chance. He fixated his eyes on the pinecone, summoning all his magic, trying to will it to fall.

The orc raised his scimitar in the air ready to cut his head off. His eyes burned with every last ounce of his willpower at the pinecone. Come on!!

Then.... the pinecone fell.... landing right on the orc's head as he looked up, snarling in surprise and annoyance. He turned his head back to the boy to find himself staring at the end of his rod. The boy yelled out in contempt as a huge flame engulfed the head of the orc. The orc screamed in agony, stepping back as the other two orcs watched in surprise.

Now's my chance! He picked out one of the other orcs from the distance and hurled a fireball, wrapping him in flames. The two orcs fell to the ground, rolling around and screaming in pain. The other orc watched horrified, and turned to flee, only to find his back in seething fire as he fell to the ground.

The boy staggered over to the burning orcs, with hatred in his eyes burning even stronger. "I'll send you to the underworld you vile creatures!!" He clenched his teeth as he pointed his Flame Rod at the shreiking orcs on the ground.

Then darkness.......
A light to the right.....
It was the moonlight shining through the window.... a cool wind blew the curtains gently above the floor. Dyluck looked around the room.
It was just a dream.
He turned his head beside him, where Sabrina laid sound asleep. He put his hand gently on top of hers, then on her stomach, then her hand again.
How relieved he was to find his love next to him when he woke.
With a smile, he laid back again trying to sleep, but hearing his thoughts once again.
What a strange dream.... who is that boy?....

His eyes widened with horror as he finally reached the battlefield.

Thousands of bodies laid across the plains, blood stained all over the brown lifeless ground. He could almost feel himself becoming sick in his stomach from looking at all the disfigured corpes. He tried to look away, but it seemed as if the bodies with eyes still opened stared back at him in agony.

The boy turned away and tried to keep his eyes on his feet. Clutching his wounded arm that he clumsily bandaged, he trudged on with the Flame Rod supporting his stumbling. He looked all around while walking through the endless plains. Not a sign of life. Father, where are you?

As he made his way deeper into the battlefield, he finally spotted someone standing in the distance amongst the bodies. No, there were three of them....

He pushed himself on, with hope in his eyes......
When he got closer he identified the standing figures....
It's her..... and her lover..... and the lizardman......

Then he saw that they were standing around an unmoving body. He recognized the body....

Father?
The three turned their heads as they heard him approach.
"Father!!! No!!!"
The boy sprinted toward the body and dropped to the ground, clutching the lifeless body of his fahter.
"NOOO!!! Father!!! This can't be!! Wake up father!!! Please wake up!!"
The boy shook the lifeless body while tears gushed from his eyes.

The woman bit her lips and turned into the arms of her lover.
Tears in eyes, the boy turned, looking at the woman. He let go of the body and stumbled over to the woman, falling to his knees and clasping her leg.
"My goddess!! Please help him!! Bring him back!! Please!!!"

The woman looked down at him, shaking her head, a tear trickling down her cheek. "My boy, I wish I could..... but you know I can't anymore...."

"Please!!!!" the boy cried, shaking her leg. The woman reached down trying to pull him back on his feet. "I'm sorry....."

The boy pushed her arm way and crawled back over to his father's body and clasped his lifeless head in his arms. Then he turned his head, staring at the woman with a rage in his eyes while still sobbing.

"How could you let this happen!!" the boy howled through his tears. "My father served you for thousands of years and now when he needs you, you let him down!! My father died fighting for you! He died for you! This was all because of you! It's all your fault!! You killed him!! You killed my father, just like you killed grandfather Dyluck!!"

The woman turned away and broke into tears in the arms of the man who turned his head to the boy "How dare you!! What a thing to say!!"

The woman put an arm around him. "No stop, it's alright...."
Just then an unfamiliar shriek rose from nearby. The company turned, looking at the source of the sound. It was from an eagle. But it was no ordinary eagle.... It began to grow horns from it's head and fangs from it's enlarging beak. His talons grew huge as he shrieked again, spitting out a burning acid on the ground.

"What in the.... " the man's jaw hung open.
The woman gasped "No....the terrible magic used in the battles....they've turned the animals into monsters....how horrible!"

The eagle monster shrieked again as it saw them. It turned and began to approach clumsily.
"We have to get out of here!" the man exclaimed.
"You all get on out of here, I'll hold the monster back!" the lizardman finally spoke.
"Are you sure you'll be alright?" the woman asked, concerned.
"Yes I'll be fine my goddess, thank you." the lizardman bowed.
The woman nodded and turned to the man. "Take the boy too. Let's go!"
The monster shrieked an lunged as the lizardman used his spear to fend him off. "Go!!"

The man took the boy's arm and pulled him to run. The boy struggled against him. "No! My father's body! We can't just leave it here!
The lizardman leapt aside, dodging the monster's spit.
"We don't have time!" the man exclaimed, dragging the boy away.
"No!!" the boy screamed, still in tears.

The man put his arm around the boy, picking him up and carrying him away. The boy howled, reaching out his arm, staring at the unburied body of his father, not given the proper respectful burial he so deserved.

Finally the body was out of view as they ran further away. Then the boy turned his head, looking at the woman running beside him. He stared at her, with contempt in his eyes....

It was darkness again.
Dyluck blinked, staring at the ceiilng.
Another dream.....
He turned, looking at Sabrina, breathing gently on his arm while she slept.
Then he looked at the moonight shining through the window, thinking about the dream and the boy in it...
