german characters

does anyone know of a way to type german characters such as these:
ßüä, on a english keyboard? Ive already tried using alt combinations, but all it does is move the character. Does anyone know of another way?

ß = ss
ü =ue
ö= oe
ä = ae

easiest way, everyone will understand you

normally you write the alt key with 132 for ä, 129 for ü, 148 for ö, and 225 for ß

but it does not work ingame.

You can also have Windows switch between alternate keyboard layouts with a hotkey. You configure that in the control panel. Then you can you just type german chars as if you had a german keyboard.
