What belongs where?

Post by Selete »

Hello, as you've probably guessed, I'm new. When I first saw Illarion, I was (and still am) so excited - I've been looking for a place like this for years. However, that also makes me very, very nervous, mainly because I've never been in a place like this and I have no idea how to conduct myself.

I've roleplayed in forums before, and a little bit in real-time games, but never have I seen a place which does both. What kind of roleplay belongs in town and what kind of roleplay belongs in the forums?

Thank you very much for your time. :)

I can't really explain to you HOW to role-play, but maybe this link will help you out a bit, if you haven't read it already:
http://illarion.org/general/us_rpg_guide.php

All I can really say is look at examples (watch how other people do it ingame and on the forum), you'll get the idea. Don't be nervous. :D

Guild and RP forms have to be doen In character.. ie your character writes the letter, or acts or does whatever.

Note that it could have effects on your character In Game. Someone can beat you up for example if you write bad messages against him, so careful what you do.

Otherwise, enjoy, have fun and use a lot of #me to show us what you're doing

you will pick up on it very fast. Just remeber that in the guild forums some are written in other languages so be sure to check that too.

Dont forget #me is your friend :) also read the manual of how to save text too its really usefull for character discriptions.

okay first of all in the forum's in the RPG and Guild's Forum type with puntcuation and grammer. You should always but anyway...
When you role-play you act like a different person. Dont talk about computers and you Real-Life(otherwise known as RL) If you really have to. Type. #o (stands for out of conversation) and you message. Only use it for important questions.
RP.
Okay first pick a proffesion. Carpenter, smith, miner, what ever...
Be medieval in playing.
Dont say.....
What's up Yo? ( that is not good ) instead try..
Good Evening and How might you be today?
Ask around, talk around, people will be willing to help. And when you choose your proffesion find a teacher. That should be easy. Just ask around.

RP:
Okay Role Play(RP as you already know) is very fun to do. (after a while)
Dont just be quiet. Try a lot of these.

#me yawns
#me puts left leg against the wall, has his hands crossed and listens patiently
#me wipes his sweat with a sigh
#me gives a sigh and takes a seat

ETC.

I hope this helps.

Thank you very much, that was very helpful. I hadn't thought of finding a teacher before. However, how would you find a teacher for a profession which is not typically supported in general society (for example, banditry, thievery, or proffessional flasher?)

Thief= halfling
hmm.. write a message to William Woodhill (my user name)
Click on You have no new messages. Click new post. in the user name type swish1 and then type Dear William Woodhill....

or click priv message button next to my post.

Oh darn it I just revealed he is my char oh well. Anyway william was old thief now a smith so he could teach you if you wanted.
Hmm well I did RP and made him a good guy but I could make him bad. :) See that is the beauty of RP. You control everything my friend.

Personal recommendation:
First of all you just started, I believe, dont be like me. Ya you should have seen me. Ask Liles. *looks for Liles. I tried to steal from everyone. But Liles explained wait a few months. That is what I am telling you. Wait my friend. Start out as a friendly char okay. But as you progress... :D *evil laugh

Another recommendation:
It might be too hard to understand but thievery is harder than bandit.
For thief the other player has to decide. Here is an Ex.

you: #me carefully views the man's belt
them(if decided): #me has 50 copper coins.
you: #me carefully reaches into the bag and feels around for the copper coins
you: #me carefully takes 25 copper coins
them: (okay this might be hard to understand but... they have to decide if your RP is good. They could end it right here by saying #me slaps the man and takes his copper back or they could go to their inventory and drop)

Again they have to drop they dont drop by itself. They have to [/i] drop.
But dont be a thief. Grumpy players in Illarion. not a lot want to RP. Its fun for the thief. But I guess not for them. One time I stole two ham legs.

Anyway but a bandit.

You:#me grabs the man
You attack them and they say sorry and hand everything over.
#me slashes at the man
Give me everything
( I would suggest having three or four people with you to help)
Them: #me hands it over ( understand there is no handing feature instead of just dropping you RP as if you are handing it over)

Pros and Cons of thievery and banditry

Thief: hard to RP
need a lot of experience
can make that much money?
(obviously because no one would drop something valuable unless a superb RPer)

Banditery:
You need to train a lot.(in order to scare the other Player you have to be powerful)
Sometimes you have to go to jail that means no RP for some days.
You have to keep on hiding. Because people will remember your number
(!someone number bandit put him in jail, they could do that and remember you)
You need some partners.

proffessional flasher what is that?

oh ya for teachers, just watch halflings sometimes you may see them steal. or you may see a bandit. Ask May I join? (you need to train though)

Either a thief or a bandit. You need to be powerful. If you were a thief and you tried to steal from a powerful knight you would be making trips to the cross. So become powerful.

Hope this helps! :D

 Woah, I hadn't considered all that. When I crafted my character, I had hoped that he would start out as a bartender (his old job) and eventually become a spy, based on his peeping-tom nature. I hadn't realized that functions such as sneaking and pick-pocketing would be based on player-to-player interaction alone...

Thank you SO much for saving me! I can't imagine how much trouble you just saved me and my character from.

Is a really, really short human an acceptable substitute for a halfling?
I would like my char, Daril Green, to meet yours very much if you don't mind. It's hard for me to think of how this would occur, however - he's still seasick from the boat to the island. He doesn't know anyone at all yet, and being the shifty, keep-to-himself sort, he hasn't attracted any attention.

I've got to wonder, if it's so hard to be a thief, why do they make it a class? ... And how on earth did you manage it?

Actually, Thieving isn't that bad truely. Putting on a Player to Player basis makes things 10x more interesting. My theif is quickly becoming the King of Thieves. He's never been thrown into jail or caught, stolen from about 7 people, And Had Stephen and Revlen running around town looking for an Invisible Orc Invasion, which i finnaly led them to a deer in the Tavern ;).

It's easy if you know who doesn't have eyes in the back of their head.

Well, I've always loved thieves for exactly that reason - they seem to have a talent for making things interesting.

Now I badly, badly want to hear more about what your character has done!

I add my voice to yours. Wait, Taylor, Selete, can we like start a gang? Thief gang?

*looks around hoping others did not hear that

Ya it is not that bad but I would have to create a new char none of my current chars match. But if you have to do that. Kill minimum 1000 pigs. 1000 animals(deer squirrel) your ready to become a bandit. 1000 mummies. Dont power game though. Do it step by step. 50 a day keeps the skills sharp.

After that you are ready.

Well, if you want to go in the bandit direction, I would have to make a new character, too - my current one is strictly a sneaky type.
Thank you for the advice. :)
