Installation/Connection problems

Post by Inyalinda »

New user here - I just downloaded the client today, and seem to be having problems. I receive a blank map (with interface) after a rather long connection time. (EDIT: Earlier login problem fixed - must have been a typo I hadn't noticed.)

I registered about six o'clock CDT and received the validation email, with which I promptly validated my account. After starting the game and seeing the blank screen, I scanned the technical FAQ and saw that my problem was already hanging around. I tried restarting it from the main Illarion file, but it still didn't work.

However, I have very few files in my Illarion folder: the manual, the readme, my character folder, the Illarionsetup097.exe file, and a .cgf file. I noticed that the FAQ reminds the player to unzip all the files, and make sure the *.tbl files are extracted. I haven't been able to find any ZIP files anywhere.

I'm obviously missing something. Can someone help me out?

Here are my computer specs, in case they're needed:
OS: Windows XP Home Edition (5.1, Build 2600)
DX version: 9.0c (4.09.0000.0904)
Video Adapter: Intel 82865G Graphics Controller (Driver: ialmrnt5.dll v. 6.14.0010.4396)
Soundcard: Realtek AC97 Audio (Driver: ALCXWDM.SYS v. 5.10.0000.5380)
Internet: 56k modem, fairly sure I have a router and firewall
PC: Intel Celeron 2.80GHz CPU, 238MB RAM

Thanks much!

may be a stupid question...
did you actually create a character?
(you only mentioned the account, not the character)

Yes, I did, and I should have mentioned that: my apologies.

I did make a character, and according to my account she is playable. Thanks for reminding me to point that out.

in the client, did you put the name of the account, or the name of the char? (it should be the chars name)

"Logged out by server Reason: Character not found Character: Inyalinda"

....

Maybe you didnt type the name or password exactly, look in your accoutn if your character really is playable, and try again.

Just double-checked my account, and yes, she's playable. Tried starting the game again, but this time I retyped the name and password, and I didn't get the error. There must have been a typo I hadn't noticed.

I'm still not getting any graphics, though ...

Try getting the latest drivers for your graphic card, if you didn't do already. That usually helps quite well, and don't try to play on the highest graphical settings, maybe you could tweak that a little aswell in the options (on the log-in screen)

Downloaded the latest driver from Intel (which turned out to be the one I already had), and set my video settings to a lower framerate, reduced graphics, and lower colours. The difference is definitely noticeable.

... That's really odd. Now I'm getting the error again. I deleted my original character and made a new one (after reading the attributes topic, I realized I'd made a pretty stupid mistake and rectified it - see, that's what happens when you're a newb), but I've typed in my new character's name in correctly, along with my password, and I'm not changing characters every day or something. It says I can't be found, but my account says I'm right there. Not to mention I tried once more last night (with the new character), and it worked fine - that is, I got into the client. Still no graphics.

I'm debating uninstalling the entire thing, top to bottom, and giving it another shot ...

As of today I have uninstalled and reinstalled the Illarion Client. At first it seemed it might work better, as the setup took a lot longer and seemed to be going through more files. When I started it, I typed in my password and character name, but it turned up unfound. On a whim, I tried my old character name, and it got me in. I thought this was very odd indeed. However, there are still no graphics past the interface. I've tried on lower settings and higher settings, but it doesn't seem to make a difference.

Anything I've missed ... ? Your help is much appreciated.

(Sorry this took so long - I just got back from vacation. ^^; )

Yes, I have a firewall: Windows Firewall. Should I add an exception for Illarion?
