All characters will be transformed back to their original races as soon as the quest is over. (So, the time is determined by you, the players and your actions).

I remember there was once a quest where the effects were supposed to end when the players actions determined it, too. It was about a drought and it lasted for more then six months...
Even though none of my chars was changed I hope there will be enough hint so we do not have to stumble around for months trying to figure out a solution.

By 'explaination' I would have been perfectly happy with a quick PM to the players of the chars who were transformed, saying 'Yes, your char is a different race, it's part of a quest, be patient and find out IG.' Each account is having ot be pulled up anyway, I know it would be harder, but not *that* much harder to let the players know that it wasn't a glitch.
