Darkness

Post by Devrah Windslasher ~ »

In the mountains around Varshikar, Devrah stands motionless, eyes aimed towards the northern horizon. Over that horizon, across the sea and a fair voyage away, Devrah knew that her trail would be lost. The men that were following her had finally tracked her this far; knew she was on Gobiath. Where, they didn't know --yet. But she had become a registered citizen of Varhiskar, in what was actually an attempt to claim a home for her to raise her children in - to give them the chance to be something besides wandering street rats, as she herself had become at age six. It was an uncharecteristically stupid move of her - to openly declare her presence that way. She hadn't bothered taking a false name - had assumed that they would never track her to this small island so far removed from the mainland - but they had. North, she knew, no one would find her - because no one really knew what was there. Neither did she, and there was no telling where she would dock if she took to that sea - or if she would dock at all.

She shook her head slowly, a stray red hair blowing across her dark green gaze. There was no time to run anymore. There was only time to fight. At every other point in her life she had been better equipped to fight - as a child, but not now, not when she was carrying two children of her own. Now, she was as fierce and as frightened as she had ever been - a she-bear that would fight relentlessly to the death. The problem was, Devrah didn't really want to die. And even more than that, she didn't want her children to die. Not again.

It was too late. She had made too many mistakes, made herself too known. She would simply have to hope that the people that were following her would assume her citizenry in Varshikar was a ruse - after all, they had been following her for so long, and she had never made so stupid a move. Maybe they would think it was a lie meant to mislead them - maybe they would pass by Varshikar without a glance back for her.

She could only hope. Devrah bit her lip, eyes still fixed at the sea, her ears straining for any noise around her. She didn't notice when her lip began to bleed, because she was so horribly occupied with the tiny sounds around her that might be pebbles carried along in the wind, or might be someone following her.

From the shadows of a building, a younger male, about 20 or so, watches her quietly. He knew she didn't want him to follow her, But it's in his nature. He just finnaly bends down, and takes a small twig from the ground, and cracks it, almost like playing a game with her, to see if she could find where the sound came from.

Not changing her postition, ears still perked, Devrah draws one dagger swiftly and silently at the crack of the twig.

She had an idea she knew what game her follower was playing; make a noise here, see if she would turn, and if she did, ambush her from the opposite direction. She wasn't quite that stupid.

A dangerous glint coming to her dark green eyes, she tenses all of her muscles, looking much like a tigress preparing to pounce. Her eyes and ears remain attuned to her surroundings, the feline power of her muscles prepared to strike.

The young male taps his chin thinking, seeming ammused that she would be so tense, he picks up a small stone and tosses it so it rolls in between her legs, watching around the shadowed corner with only one eye

Devrah turns lightening-fast, facing the direction the stone came from. Her eyes are narrowed and flashing with an intense, dnagerous green fire. The dark red braid of her hair whips through the air as she turns, her fingers gripping the hilt of the dagger tightly. Her eyes search the darkness and settle on the spot that must be the other end of the rock's trajectory.

"You have one-tenth of a second to come out where I can see you before I kill you regardless of who you are," she hisses.

The young male merely chuckles and steps out, his red cape covering his right side, and a devilish grin covering his face.

"Did you really think you could make me loose your trail? Come now. Were talking about me here. I enjoy chaos. I've learned to see through it."

His limpid brown eyes stare at her, calmly, almost as if he doesn't care that she is beyond aggrivated.

The fire in her eyes barely lessons.

"If you knew I didn't want you to follow me," she hisses, and throws her dagger so that it lands quite deliberately embedded in a tree trunk inches from his throat, and draws another dagger quickly, "Why did you anyway?"

The man merely chuckles and shakes his head, running his right arm through his hair slightly

"And here i was thinking simple love and care was enough."
