Is This Fair?

Post by Freo »

Hello, My name is Freo, I just recently started playing illarion and today i found out that at the beggining i made a bad mistake. Especially me wanting to learn every spell. I found out that when I was putting the stats for my character ( when he was being created ) I didnt max out my intelligence. Now when i was asking around about why certain spells said "you dont understand this spell" when you use them. Well i found out that you need a higher intelligence and that youll never be able to learn the spell because there isnt a way to increase that intelligence. Now i personally dont think thats very fair. If i have this wrong can someone please tell me a way to increase intelligence.[/img]

It happens to most people when making their first chars, my first was useless at most things, but there is the 'advice' button on the char creating interface window that would have given you a few pointers as to what certain things do, and it does only say that intell determines mana loss when making spells, so i think perhaps it is a little unfair, but better for roleplay since in RL we aren't always good at what we want to be (I myself puposely restricted this char's intell so that I could not perform every spell, as I did not want to be a powerful mage).

well, I as many others spent many points on absolutely useless things... e.g. I maxed out WIllpower... true, I was very annoyed, but I learned to live with it. Mishrack was my first character, and he is still the one I play with now, mainly because no one is perfect. I doubt your parents would abandon you just because you were slightly "flawed"... so dont do the same with your characters either! You created them, ye stick with them.
That is RP, as the point of the game is not to be the greatest fighter or mage in the whole world, but just to have fun. Those little flaws only make your character more"real" and personal.

I agree with Mishrack (not about the king thing ;)). If everyone has maxed out their stats for a warrior, mage or whatever then where is the variety that makes up a community? Play your character with all its weaknesses. My character is a quite weak druid so I play him as an old man of peace. Don't forget Illarion is an RPG first and foremost, not an " increase all your stats" fest that other games decay into.

I just dont think its very fair. yeah i agree you should start out with only certain strengths or whatever, but i think that later in the game as you progress you should be able to strengthen your weaknesses. I spent a lot of time getting lots of runes only to find out I havent the intelligence to do certain spells. I REALLY DO NOT wish to make another character.

This has already been discussed, You have a very low chance of changing any of the programmers minds. Unless of course you sent them a cash bribe to raise your intelligence :D.

What's so bad about creating a character, especially when you just made this one a couple days ago? If you can't bring yourself to making a new character, just live with it. I had created my character as a mage about half a year before the new magic system came out, which made me unable to cast many spells. It was hard to live with at first, and I thought it was downright unfair, but you can live with it. Try.
