Dodge makes sense to be used against magic, but not parry. Parry is to block with a weapon, blocking magic with a weapon doesnt make sense. But dodge is the ability to quickly dodge an attack, and spells are still an attack. Dodge a spell attack flying at you is the same as dodging a weapon or arrow flying at you. There is no reason why dodge shouldnt have an effect in this.

Well actually it has been proven that it strikes you from the ground. In Rl anyway.Samantha Meryadeles wrote:Just that not every spell flys at you. a lightning strucks you from above, a stronger fireball is an explosion that comes from under you. and the stronger icespell an ice cube that grows around you.
I have to agree with Salathe. The 100% accuracy doesn't make any sense and simply isn't fair. A newer mage could hit a demon skeleton 100%, where a average fighter would hardly even hit it. Unless there is a way to give spells "accuracy", basically making mages miss sometimes, making magic dodgable is the next best thing.

Ok, now you just need to shut the hell up. They're the ones that made this game, they made it so we could play it. It's f*cktard statements like that that piss me off. They put their time and energy into making this, and you still insult them.Anyways I doubt any developers will read this, or do anything for it. Enjoy and have fun with your magic.
Big thanks from a player huh?

i've read the entire last pages of this and i haven't seen a single valid point. all ive seen is the same nonsense as before, the first time it led to finding an actual bug in the system and magic was visably reduced. this was a good for sure, this time i see nothing but whining anf the only decent idea brought up by Stephen. everyone seems to think that the players that have magic are abusing magic. but mostly everyone is wrong, if you'd like to see horenous abuse of magic, just ask i'll be happy to show you what abused magic can really do.
points to note:
1. students do have spells, i know for a fact because Ath has given runes himself, recovery time from the skill loss however can take some time. so it's still a slow process even when it starts
2. blocking fireballs and spells on shields lead to shocks, frostbite and shields melted to arms. there are shields that block some magic damage. the most common is the cursed shield. use it.
3. dodging magic isnt' really a problem it's completely possible. your problem isn't with magic it's with a little item called a wand.
4. Arameh, no offense but everytime something happens your the first to go off to boards. with someone who has the acess you do i think you'd at least take the time to test a few things before just flying off at the mouth.
5. players of evil characters, i'm sorry if you feel all magic players have been punning you nonstop. i'm sorry that i blow up every skeletion person i see, and attack every merc on the list of merc and assasin i used to work with in character....oh wait...i dont... try poison. poison will F#$% you up
more points to come, but i feel like playing now, i have runes to teach.

I remember talking to Nitram once about magic.
It was supposed to be special, supposed not to be practiced by everyone.
Obviously for that reason it was supposed to be realy strong.
But that can be fixed with roleplaying if needed. And if a mage were up against more people, he/she would run out of mana and be a sitting duck for about 20 minuites. What if someone strikes between that time? The mage would be defenceless.
I havn't read the whole topic so dont kill me if i say something already said.

*Raises hand* i'm that student, I can agree it is very slow. it takes a ton of work and time to even get to 4 % in Magic with one spell. As this states, Would you block an asteroid with a shield? How about a glacier? Seriously, use your brain. The shield would instantly melt/shatter, and with ice, the Intenese cold would burn your skin with frost bite, and shatter the sheild, as it would freeze and become brittle.Athian wrote:2. blocking fireballs and spells on shields lead to shocks, frostbite and shields melted to arms. there are shields that block some magic damage. the most common is the cursed shield. use it.
I can vouch, Without a wand of fire, My Rah Kel spell misses a mummy about 2-3 times out of 6 casts. with it's 6/6Athian wrote:3. dodging magic isnt' really a problem it's completely possible. your problem isn't with magic it's with a little item called a wand.
Agreed, I try to do so aswell(research that is).athian wrote:4. Arameh, no offense but everytime something happens your the first to go off to boards. with someone who has the acess you do i think you'd at least take the time to test a few things before just flying off at the mouth.

How is magic working in the world of Illarion?
If it's manipulated physics (e.g. create a real ball of fire and throw/shoot it like an archer) you sure should be able to dodge or block it with a good shield:
If a fireball flies to me and hits my uplifted shield, maybe the shield gets mass damage and me, too, but it will stop the far more amount of damage. A fireball is NO meteorite...
But a flame from the ground would be hardly possible to block and more difficult to dodge. So it depends on each spell.
And the distant spells should not have an always-hit-guarantee, but it seems that this isn't the case.
PS: It was quite a fun to read all the "pwning"

Few things i'd like to point out..
Warlocks are not mages. Okay, Let me tell you why. Warlocks are ten times harder to play than any other mage/warrior there is. And this is why: We have the most rounded skills imaginable. To beat a warrior, we have to be twice as strong as him, same with a mage. Our advantage is that we ARE BOTH SIDES. We can attack a mage, and Cast on a Warrior. This is not bad RP, this is using your strengths against their weaknesses. As Athian says ig, it is "Balance." I swear, If you saw the shit my character went through in 5 lessons, You'd be amazed.
Another thing, To get ALL the runes from a teacher, Will take atleast, ATLEAST 2 months. I've gotten two runes from athian, thats it.
Also, this Bullshit about a fireball taking 1/8th of your health. Nuh-uh. Stfu you are lying. It takes my character about 16 fire balls to kill a PIG. Granted he only has Dark/light blue Commotio, and been training for TWO WEEKS, it still takes that many. How long does it take a warrior to get light blue of something? One day. One DAY! I took one of my chars to the mummy tomb with another person, and got Dark green Puncture, FROM NO SKILL AT ALL. So stop whining.
Also, As for the OOC lines being drawn. No. Alright, Alister and Athian have taken atleast one job for Sess'sth. Gathering thread. Warlocks are the Mercenaries of the magic world. Our training takes 5 times longer than both warriors and Mages. But we also become the most powerfull.
As for stats, I won't release the Warlock stats, as you must figure them out. We have no weaknesses, just put it that way. As for Mages, Mages have NO str NO cons LITTLE dex LITTLE Agi. That beats your No ESS, NO WILL, NO PER. So shh.
*tosses a two pence* later.

down boy down, no need to defend. it's the classical two ends of the spectrum with uber mages being disliked by uber fighters. it's always going to be tht way
what Samantha is sayin is that low level spells should do less damage, i disagree with Samantha there because that will again make us halfers study, what Samanahta doesn't seem to realize along with a few others is that i can have twice the skill and do just over half of what they can do, stat decided thats true, but the world doesn't revolve around Samantha's suggestions.
the strongest a small spell will ever be is three spells against any target, and thats with boosted stats. doubtful any player mage will gain that much power.
yea sure Warlocks have it tough, but whatever, it's about the rp. i like teaching the 'ways' of the warlock more then the actual magic, and i'd hope to see a few other such vocations show up in magic and druidry and trhe other systems. have such things really spices up the rp quite a bit.
anyway lets not get too off topic.

The problem is a talented warrior gets destroyed as easily as an unskilled merchant because the warrior's skills do not help effect the battle with a mage.
Let the fighting skill dodge count in being hit by a spell or not and the system will be far more fair and fun for all.
And since mages cannot stand up against a warrior for long, even tho they can teleport a warrior away, or paralise them, why not give them one more, a spell that acts like a shield, protecting them x2 as much for a few seconds.

it's not a problem in my opinion. there some things you can train for some things you can't. magic is one of those things. just as you can't be trained to get shot, it works in the same manner. the only way to have chance at training effectively against magic is to be of the magical vocation itself in my opinion. however there is some protection against magic. so your not completely helpless. you just have to use what you can.
and Garett go make yourself a mage and try half those stunts, teleport gates fail literally 6 out of 10 times and are disrupted by items. (you can't put a gate ontop of flowers), this same effect happens with self teleport, items disrupt magic.
paralisis is not some god sent spell, it can back fire and is hard to train, want to be afraid of somehting be afraid of the lighting spell, which can freeze you in place for a good second or two, more then long enough for a full powered magical beat down

This will get fixed soon. Atleast, the flower stuff. The limitation was made because we could teleport through closed doors.and Garett go make yourself a mage and try half those stunts, teleport gates fail literally 6 out of 10 times and are disrupted by items.
