What are your dump-stats?

Post by Pardischar Wolfen »

While rolepaying it is rather easy to play a character that is practicly good in everything, the high art or roleplaying is mostly to play a character with a disadvantage,
but its even harder to stay true to it everytime and not only when it suites you.

There are plenty of guides on this board how to create your character and where to put the attribute points.
Plenty of thiese "builds" require you to save some points at specific attributes, making you put less than the "averange" in them.
(Which makes them your dump-stat.)

Now my question(s) is(/are):
  • Does your character have a dump-stat, and how "bad" is it?
  • Do you always stay true to them, or do you ignore them as long the system does not enforce them?
E.g.: Ignoring having a "dumb-to-the-bone" character as long the server does not notice.
  • How do you play out these disadvantages?
Thanks. :)

My character has no "dump-stat", all at either 10 or 11.

Your stats are for server calculation only... feel free to do what you like with his personality..

But be logical, if you RP a strong orc (who has 3 strenght) you'll get pummiled in a fight :)

I cannot agree to this point of view, and looking at your own example you can't yourself.
Such thinking would be simply illogical.

See, if I play a character with near no intelligence, stat wise of course, how can I make him the most clever during roleplaying sessions, while the server refuses to let him read books or hard-coded quest hints ?
(Probably the most easiest example I could give.)

That's why, in my eyes, attributes are a somekind of frame, and the painting inside is our roleplay.

I'd really like to see some answers to my questions.

Adano is a bit weaker then average, therefore I have him refuse to wear any heavy armor or use large bi-hander swords or axes. He also prefers doing things that requires cunning, a steady hand and good eye over strength.

His other weaknesses are more RP wise. He has problems expressing his emotions, thinks too much at one time and quickly jumps into action another, depending on what his strong moralic codex dictates.

i dont follow that because Stephen is a leader / warrior. If I were to give him the proper intell and willpower to play him as he is he would be a much lesser warrior and people would not fear fighting him much. (least old fighting system )

Stephens personality disadvantages; he never lets any close to him, he cannot get emotionally attached (look what happened to his daughter), he has a twisted belief in pride and honor.

and worst of all, he is constantly evolving.

Well, Misjilah is weak. *gazes at her stats* I roleplay her as a frail elfess, highly slim, without any strength whatsoever, who is not as quick as all the others. So yeah, I do roleplay her according to her stats. For instance, she is highly smart and no one whatsoever can persuade her to certain situations unless it is very in her advantage. (high willpower/intel/essence).

not strong at all, therefore I avoid as many violent scenes unless im there to sort things out, I also dont wear armor at all only robes, Azuros is also unusually not agile for an elf, and if you ever walk with him through mountains and things you can notice his frustration with rocks

thats the only things that i remember

This is just plain wrong. Your stats have to be rp'd. If you have 3 Int you cant play the character as a genius.
Your stats should fit your characters personality / role. Not just be a random jumble of numbers to give you the best abilities you can squeeze from the server.

Yes, horrible.
Most of them are around average, its not too hard.
He's as charismatic and political as a stick in the mud.

Ules has low perception, i dont play it as low as i should, but i do make it noticable that he doesnt have great eyesight (for instance he compeltely missed something sylveria said...er gestured, once, and there are a few other things)

He';s also fairly weak, and i play him as such. For instance if I rp him getting hit, even lightly he'll clearly say "OW!" or something. He also wont wear heavy armor

1. Yes, Horrible.
2. Yes.
3. He plays a strong, but often weak person, People notice when they fight him.

Taylor is kinda alot like stephen in ways. He doesn't let anyone close to him, But how he differs is that he rarely shows emotion. While stephen gets angry, Taylor is usually calm, Unless you inuslt Mai, at which point he'll rip off your head. He's often not the smartest of people, But does know how to bend the rules to his advantage by mere twisting of words.

Stephen tends to be able to hold in a lot of anger, but then has mad bouts of anger when he is publically humiliated.

Having a balanced char is nice to see, but as you said yourself, roleplay is an art. As an art, roleplay is viewed subjectively and I feel that people who play "almighty heroes" are no less of a roleplayer than those who feel that foils are needed. I feel that these types of characters are not only a valid and "high" form of roleplay, but I feel they are needed as well. It is all up to the player and how they wish to play. Each method can have strikingly different results and expressions.

For Arameh, I play him using his stats, but not just that. For instance, he has really high strenght and constitution, I play him so he actually is confident in fighting, and strong. But there are some stats like intelligence, that musnt be taken to the letter. Tons of fighter put no intelligence, to have better fighting stats, does that mean all their characters are complete idiots? I dont think so...

Arameh has 8 intelligence, the way I played him, he wasnt really smart at the begining, lot of peoples knows that :P . Slowly, I made him smarter, mainly after he has been teached by Mirjilah, some peoples that have characters close to Arameh could notice, the HUGE changes. What I mean, your character must have a progression, it musnt always stay the exact same, and only think about stats and race. Right now I consider Arameh pretty smart, he could engage in a good argument, and also can rip off peoples in trading, the way I RP him is much more complicate than most peoples think, even though I dont always make #me's . Thats all I had to say.

My character Leto was a sickly child so her constitution and ability are below average. She also is weak willed.

However he sense of honour demands that if the town is attacked and there are no guards around, that she will try to slay it, this usually gets her killed, multiple times.
