Chasing in new fighting system.

Post by Arameh »

Well, today, i was chasing an orc, Ku. Well first he ran, after 30 seconds of running, he made a mistake and i could get very close to him. Well, i was using a bastard sword, so i hit his back. BUT, i discovered, that my character got stallen 5 SECONDS, when i could move again, he was barely in my screen anymore, and i lost him. 5x attack strenght helps with chasing, but not if you hit the guy once, and never see him again cause you get stalled. Chasing already was very frustrating...and now its even more :( . Can we please fix that? Right now, its COMPLETELY IMPOSSIBLE, to catch someone that wears an armor, until he is laggy or very bad at fleeing, if you dont trust me, try chasing one of my character, i can garantee youll never catch him...

If you're carrying a large ass sword, and tried to swing it at someone (Which is a great thing in it's self) do you think it would be easily recoverable?

Do you think they would be able to continue running at full speed if hit by a two hander?

i would say yes you could, he can catch up to run right beside you, prepare to lunge or swing his sword in arc, take perhaps one second to recover his footing while the one hit in the back would take several to recover from the blow.
Give the person chasing a 1 second delay, 2 at most when he hits the enemy. Otherwise scrap the whole thing because as Arameh said, now no one will bother to be jailed as you cannot catch them nor harmed them when trying to catch them.

Why do you think there are so many useless endless wars? Cause everyone can fucking flee easily, so they dont care if they get chased. And you said we would need to recover after hitting, and he dosent need to recover after you hit him with your big 2 handed sword?! WTF, think about it, for me the lack of chasing system scraps my RP to be a Knight, as anyone can just fucking insult me and run away.

As once famously said by a guard who will remain nameless:

If they parry the attack, it will stop them for a moment. While true they would be rather stunned, maybe we can give a unmobility detriment to being hit, not that you can't attack or anything, you just can't move, like a time based over encumberance.

don't say it's so easy for us who are being chased. even with 20 agility it's just a contest on who can hold down the left key the longest. but the illarion crew keeps saying in order for it to actually work you have to run into the mountains or woods or anything but grass and the road. but it really is all about who wants to give up first. that is unless the chaser is wearing full armour, has 1 agility, and such, and vice verca (sp?). hasn't this exact topic been started numerous times before?

It should depends on thir skill how long they get stalled for, an expert would know how to move with the momentum of the sword, which would actually let him move faster for a breif time period.

Running at full tilt and swinging a heavy two handed sword at a running opponent.....not an esy task, and unlikely to get a full, strong blow in. Plus it can be assumed that, knowing he is being chased by a big sword wielding maniac gives the chased one incentive to dodge a little

I would say that you could use your push/verve from running to swing your heavy sword easily once. And if you hit him in the back, it is realistic that he is hurt AND unbalanced!

PS: Running Mode System - now! :D

Arameh STFU about chasing!! gaarh all you care about is beating up someone so you can steal their armour and sell it overpriced. while you hit the guy in the back it should not have stunned him, would have probably gave him a boost! think about it, your wearing armour, a guy swings his large ass sword at you (which is going to be slow due to size and weight) it will just knock you in the direction you are hit. maybe the guy would have slight wiplash but that wont stop him running, it would take you more time to recover from your swing. Let us think about this in another perspective, you throw a ball up in the air, and when it comes down you swing at it with a baseball bat and it moves forewards. (The ball being the guy and the bat being the sword) and i can asure you that mass has nothing to do with this at a guy wearing armour being hit hard by a baseball bat would still probably make him move foreward a little.

Arameh, wasn't your last arguement that no one ever escaped or was caught? That you just run around for hours....Seems that has been solved, so stop whining that you can't cloud people!

Retlak is right....

Does this happen with ALL weapons? or just huge ones?

It would be a great way to give a use to shortswords and daggers, where you just stab; and run...

It is simple: If you hit someone in the back, you do a huge amount of damage. With your fighting skills and your weapon, you should be able to kill someone with very few hits.

I would like to add that you need to think about the realism of this. When one runs away from a fight, he is usually in fear and runs quickly. Now imagine some person running after him with weapon draw and ready to attack, running behind him. To hit a running person, running after it, with a large sword is almost impossible if you intend to do a good slash.

In addition to this: When you chase someone away, then you have won. You do not always need to kill someone.

Please consider the info written on the website! Death is the worst punishment in Illarion and is not always necessary.

You will love your character after some time. If he dies, a world will break for some players. Therefore we have made the death in Illarion less serious but still hurting. You will be able to keep on playing with some losses. The only permanent death is sentenced by gamemasters, if they find you with a massive rule violation. Therefore players shouldn't make themselfs the law and enforce it on their own.[...]
