The days go by. The nights go by... But while the dead are sleeping forever and the undead never do, the mortals are dreaming. In the creeping arms of death's small brother, Midrusio was back in Troll's Bane the day when hell broke out...
Midrusio came into town and entered Eliza's crowded shop. There was nervousness in the thick air and many voices created a constant noisiness.
"The undeads are trying to take the western gate again", Stephen Rothman shouted. "I need someone to help Siltaris guard it!"
Although Midrusio wasn't a follower of "Governor" Rothman and never an official citizen, Troll's Bane was still his home on Gobiath: "I'll do it!"
He ran to the gate far in the west of the town - Siltaris, page of Kallahorn, and the town guard Karguk Inkathurg, who luckily had survived the fiery breath of a dragon, were standing at the two locked massive wooden doors, and also Rothman's adopted daughter Alica. Everything seemed under control, for now, but they were only a few fighters. All the mighty warriors of Troll's Bane were resting or wounded from prior battles against the cemetery's rotting brood which were arriving at Troll's Bane through unholy portals in endless streams of bones and flesh.
Karguk the orc was looking forward for a bloody skirmish and he was only hold back with quite some effort from Siltaris and Alica. Some time later - Maggie Kemoc and Ardian for some moments showed up, while the roaring of dozens and dozens not living creatures echoed across the town walls - there was suddenly a battle outside!
"What's happening outside the gate?", Alica asked.
Maybe a poor man who teleported at the wrong time to the wrong place? Should they open the gates and try rescuing the unknown stranger? But fate made a quick decision:
Suddenly one of the heavy gates was thrown up and the lock bursted into a thousand pieces - the undeads charged! Karguk didn't hesitate for a second and jumped with all his power into the approaching hordes of god denying monsters. For some moments he was able to stop them, but they were too many, and Karguk was overbeared by walking skeletons: He was sucked in by endless bloody bones...
But it was enough time for Siltaris to jump into the gate's break. Alica cried, but her shout was drown out by the unholy screams of half-rotted throats which echoed across the landscape.
The first undead creatures were attacking with their disgusting claws, and Siltaris and Midrusio stood together in a fight against death himself! There was no hope, no chance to hold the gate. "Alica, get help!", Siltaris shouted while splitting fragile skulls. Although Midrusio did his best, all the furious attacks hit Siltaris and then she was knocked down by a brutal strike which smashed her armor into pieces - Midrusio stood alone, and the flood of pestilence was rising like a spring tide of the Styx! He had to retreat. In mortal fear he whirls his staff and made one step back after another... But who was there? The orc Crunk stood some meters behind him, his eyes in mad fury!
"Damn! Crunk. Help... Me!", Midrusio yelled with his last power. "I can't... close... the gate!".
"Too bad" was Crunk's only answer and while the orc started to grin like a lunatic, three repellent skeletons dig their claws into Midrusio's maltreated body... Darkness... Darkness... I am the angel of death...
