windowed

Post by Setherioth »

Is there any way that we can, through adjusting some settings, or that you can incorporate it in the next client that you can run illarion in windowed mode? Because there are times when i'm talking to people through ICQ or MSN, or when i have other programs open and I'd like to play illarion too, but i don't want to have to ALT + TAB everytime and then have to wait those few seconds for it to come back up again

Explanation : windowed use makes it easy to use macros. When playing (roleplaying!!!) you should be able to concentrate on the thing, not doing much stuff at the same time.

Yes, i realize the possibility of macros, but if a person is good enough with computers to actually know what macros are and has and can use a macro program, the fact that illarion isn't windowed i don't think will discourage him or her one bit.

haha i figured you'd look at it that way ;). But there are times when i'm just wandering through illarion looking for interesting people to talk to or interesting things going on. During those times i am not having a conversation, and if there isn't anybody online at that time i want to talk to, it can get a bit slow and that way i could be doing a few things at once if it were windowed... there are plenty of reasons i can think of for having it windowed, but bror said no so i guess that's that...

So this game is only for you? The others have no right to find you an interesting person and to try to talk to you (while you are writing letters in WinWord)?

I didn't really mean it like that Bror. I just meant that if there are a few moments when I am not doing anything, or if i need to adjust something with my computer quickly, I could do it and still keep an eye on the Illaion window (therefore not missing people talking to me so as to not appear rude by ignoring them) and also not having to be disconnected like i am when I Alt + Tab.

Anyways, it was just a thought.

About the macro thing, why not do something like just having a little message pop up every once and a while to check if the player is there? Like a little message saying "what is 3 + 5?" (I know some people may have to get out their calculator, but they can still answer it...) If the player does not respond in 45 seconds or something, they get booted out, and maybe get a talk with a GM if it happens enough.

A windowed game would be nice, but it would be a bit hard to fit on your screen (unless you ran higher than 1024*768), that is, unless you shrunk the size... Anyways, it would probably take a lot of work and be quite unnecessary.

I don't like that test question, i think that would just be really really annoying. Besides, I don't think macros are a big concern for the game as i really don't think anybody's using them. If you walk up to anybody and try to talk to them i've never had an incident where the person isn't there but his character is doing something.
