New client: Black map

Post by Nop »

Symptom: Client starts, map remains black.

There is several possible reasons. So first of all check whether your Character shows up on the server's list of online characters.

1. Driver incompatibility

Some graphics card cannot handle certain functions the client uses.
- set "disable texture updates" to active and try again

2. Machine/Grahics card is too slow

Sometimes the client works, but it takes ages to display the graphics.
- reduce frame rate
- set graphics quality to "low"

3. Client couldn't connect to the server

The client works, but could not establish a connection.
- Make sure that the server is currently up
- Check with Alt-Tab whether there is any kind of error dialog
- Retry

okay i downloaded client, and i went to the "play game" option. ANyways it says my character is logged on, only when the window for the game is all white. I think i hear someone fishing even :p
So it says Stephen Rothman is ingame, however I See nothing, only a white screen.
Obviously, the client is working. In your case it sounds like the graphics card doesn't handle the graphics right.

What type of card do you have?
Do you have the latest drivers installed?

"Something similar" isn't good enough to help you.

Make a screenshot.

Can only advise you to play around with the graphics settings, maybe the 16 bit mode.

Does the minimap update? Can you send and receive text?

Everything should work clientwise. Maybe it is a connectivity problem. Is Java allowed past your firewall?
