New client: "Too slow"

Post by Nop »

Older machines might be a little taxed running the client. This can be due to a slow processor or to insufficient memory in your grahpics card.

Symptoms:
- Error message "Insufficient system performance."
- Using 100% CPU in the task manager
- Very laggy
- Game controls show up when starting, but no map

You might try the following things:
1. Set graphics quality to low. This preserves memory and performance
2. Decrease frame rate, lowest value is 10

Note: Switching to 16bit graphics will make most modern graphics cards slower, not faster.

I found if I switch my system to 16 bit High colour (instead of 32 bit true colour) the game runs fine. But my whole systems locks up after a few seconds.
Is it possible to adjust the client/server (or whatever!) to run at lower resolutions/colour?

Resultion: No
Color: Set graphics to 16 bit colors.

Try:
- look for better driver (buzzword is "openGL support")
- try disable texture update

I got the funny feeling I can't update the settings.

When I go to the options pannel, adjust the settings and press save, the window remains opened. So I have to x-close it or choose "cancel" to get to the main screen again.

After that when I open the options pannel again the settings are default (without the changes I assigned before).

Let me explains the whole thing. My pc is good, with a good connection, no virus, no programs working, with new driver and low graphics options and it dosent work, I tryied everything with Markous, i dont understand why its laggy. Its too laggy to even think of playing, and my pc seems to be perfectly fit. I have 2.4 Ghz, 480 Mo of RAM, S3 Graphics ProSavageDDR with a driver that Markous sent me himself. I looked for virus with my norton antivirus, all updated, and an anti adwares/spywares. I dont know why its all so laggy when i log in. I cant move i can barely move my cursor. I dont know what else i can do, my java is installed, i installed both offline and online setting, my options are thoses that belgram sent, i cant play. Does anyone have a clue? Cause i really dont. Also, everytime i log in there is an error text that gets in my desktop.

I have done everything i can short of buying a new computer and still the client does not seem to want to work for me. I have spoken with the mighty grobby and I feel that if there was something we could have done differently he would have thought of it. So I fear I may need to buy a new computer before I can play the new client ... How long til the server is updated and the old client is gotten rid of ?

It doesn't look like I get lag, but I can't see the mini map or the real map, and my messeges don't pop up, nor can I hear anyone (probaly no one is near)

Did you do anything or did it just happen itself?

Currently there are some changes being tested that should increase the responsiveness of the client. At least they did on my machine. There will be an update if the test goes well.

No one knows what that means?? Also when i use windowed page and i get my cursor out of the game screen, its not laggy, when my cursor gets back on the game screen, the cursor is laggy, Im not a computer pro, but for me it means that my computer is strong enought to take the game easily, so thats not the problem.

The Java virtual machine itself crashed. That's very rare, I think Sun might be interested in this.

As for help: Try uninstalling Java 1.5_06 and installing a different release of Java 1.5, maybe it'll run on your machine.

5.0 would be right...the runtime versions get different numbers from dev versions...questionable but still...
You can continue from here on:

You have another chance. The next update will have an upgrade of the game graphics libs. There is a faint chance that this is caused by those libs and may be fixed.

Having just played the new client for a very short while firstly I would like to say…wow. The game looks bright and professional maybe not to everyone’s taste but I sure think it’s a great bit of work.

Problems:

Options, I can not save any options. I alter options or put in a figure click save and it does nothing. Close the window load up options again and everything is blank.

Character movement: Seems slow, not laggy or jittery but generally slower.

Mouse pointer: Again is annoyingly slow, not laggy or jittery but generally slow. (maybe becuse I cant save my options and scroll speed?)

For the Options, i can give you a Hint:

Zitat:
Scroll speed- >0 and <11 (Higher than zero. Smaller than 11)
Hide editor after- >0 and <601 (Higher than zero. Smaller than 601)
Show help after- >0 and <21 (Higher than zero. Smaller than 20)
Display discriptions for- >1 and <21 (higher than 1. lower than 21)
Fade out display- >99 and <1001 (Higher than 99. lower than 1001)

1. Check forum. I have already made a thread about it

2. Use options, increase frame rate.

3. Can't be changed. It runs on something special, won't bore you with details

Thanks Belgram

Nop would it not be possible to speed the mouse scroll rate up in any forth coming updates? It makes the game feel clumsy.

Also only left shift turns you where you stand, right shift button does not. Small but very annoying with one hand on the mouse, one on the arrow keys having to keep swapping hands to turn.

Don’t get me wrong *chuckles* not nit picking, love the game and the new feel, just trying to make it perfect.
