You overhear a conversation...

Post by starlover28 »

Jostling about in your seat, hearing the sea roar silently beside you, you shift your mind to the nearby conversation....

"Oh, hi. Ya, I'm afraid so, I haven't the foggiest idea where to find a good meal or a decent bed. But, lo, I don't need to like most. Like my father, like most of the people I've lived around all my life, I can do fine on my own with the trees and those who frequent them as company. Don't worry about me, friend, I'll be fine. I've fared worse in my life."
"Ok, traveller, perhaps. But, don't stand so proud when the sun falls and the shadows lurk. That is the time to find cover and protection from the darker side of our world. I've seen more than a fair share of pridefull travellers who showed up later in a graveyard, and it greatly saddens me. Be wise and take my 25 coppers, find a decent bed in town and speak with the locals. Someone will have answers for you and you won't have to find them alone."

Stepping forward, Gaffrin the elf takes the 25 coppers. He nods at the old man, and before turning and walking away, says:

"It is generous of you, my friend. I will do as you say and speak with the locals. But my heart and my mind is in the forest, don't try to ward me away from something I know so well. But I understand your concerns, and I will heed them. You're kind, I should get back to you, that i might repay the deed. What is your name, friend?
"Oh, no need to repay me traveller! My name is Olfred. I'd be happy to see you again and that is what I hope for. Just be carefull, please."
"And I will, Olfred. Off I go now, thank you for your time. Hope to see you again in the days to come. Farewell."

Gaffrin, the forest lover and hunter, steps out into the twilight and wonders what he is going to find out here, out beyond the borders of the known world. It is the first time for him, and the world brings great promise.
