does anyone have any suggestions on how to make money when you're first starting out and don't have any skills?

Start working on a skill would be my suggestion.

There are two great Illarion fansites out there *cough*UltimateIllarion*cough* that explain stuff on smaller aspects of the game that the main site doesn't delve into. Check them out.

Mining and Smithing are the most rewarding in my opinion.

So I would start another profession, before I started those.

Indeed, start with something that doesent require many tools.
Or make a deal with someone that you will work for him and you will be able to keep the tools later.
