A message

Post by .Rhiannon. »

A note is written on the wall, in handwriting that is forcibly neat and has a slight childish quality to it

Dear Citizens and Visitors of Trollsbane,

Several attempts have been made on the life of Pendar Fayed in recent days, and as far as I know the reasons have been purely because of who he is. I am writing this as a plea for these attempts to stop; Please don't look at him as a guard or a warrior. He has a family at home. He has my mother, and me, and my baby brother Caden. Please before you try to hurt him, think of how you would feel if your family were left alone and missed you very much. Aside from being a guard, Pendar Fayed is my mother's true love and he is my father. I would miss him very much if something happened to him, and it hurts me, Caden, and Caitlin Fergus every time something bad happens. Please, try to see this when next you feel angry to him.

Sincerely,

Rhiannon Fayed

Pinned underneath is another note.

Pendar has made himself a name for being a strong fighter. In doing so he has earned the envy of those who wish to take that from him, and so prove their own worth.
The fact he is a guard has helped to protect him for a while. The fact that he has a family is no deterrent, it was his choice. Every person killed is someones son, daughter, father or mother. His profession is a dangerous one, and therefore his choice a selfish one. I suggest he pick a more suited job, I hear the farmers are looking for more muck spreaders, and sheath his sword for good. Unless he lays down his sword it WILL be taken from his cold dead hand. Enjoy your days with him, and never leave him on a bad word.

Signed A Friend.

The same handwriting as the original message has been added, in a hurried scrawl

Unknown writer,

Please don't call yourself a friend when you threaten all that I hold dear. If only you knew how much loss I've seen in less than fourteen years of life, perhaps you wouldn't be so eager to add to that list. I implore you to please stop seeing him as your enemy and don't punish me because you dislike his job. It's not my fault, but I'm the one that would suffer, and so is my mother, who has never hurt a soul in her life, and an innocent baby. Please, try to see who would suffer more from this and take mercy. However, if you won't, know that I will pray for the gods to take their revenge on you for taking away the guardian of two children and the love of an innocent woman.

A neatly written note has been pinned under the last

Child I have not threatened anyone. I thought only to open your eyes to the truth. Your fathers path takes him closer to death each day. I only hoped you might persuade him to take a less selfish course.

You have suffered? I feel for your pain. As I do all those who have suffered at the tip of a sword, for all those daughters, sons, mothers or fathers who have had to imagine their loved ones pierced by cold steel. Trying to imagine the terror of those last few lonely moments, hoping that they did not suffer as much as they obviously must have. Can you imagine the feeling of the icy touch of death ripping through your fathers stomach? The creeping terror that would grip him as his life slowly seeped through his fingers. The confusion as he tries to hold his insides in. His blood warming his hands as the creeping cold of his extinction steals through his body. A terrible, terrible thought.
I am saddened that you wish me ill for wishing your father well but I do not hold it against you.

I shall not sign as a friend since this causes you such troubles. Perhaps I am nothing more than a well wisher.

Rhi... it seems apparent that you are the next victim of the one called the executioner... I suggest (again) that you seek protection, leave your father's matters to his own hands, and escape to where it is safe...

Your father is cabable of fending for himself, and Zhambra will protect him when he is not... I myself protected him while he was resting, and had blame pinned on me...

You must be a very disturbed person indeed to write such messages to a child. However, I've seen and been through much worse than you can hope to scare me with. Keep your hateful messages to yourself and don't tell me what to do. And stay away from my father.

Again you attack me? I see you have your fathers ways. If you are not scared child then why beg for your fathers life? There was nothing hateful in my letters. I was just telling you the inevitable if your father stays his course. I had hoped to avoid such a thing by advising a way around it.

Tell you what to do? I did no such thing and would not presume to do so.
You said yourself the attacks were mainly because he is who he is. The attacks will not stop just because a little girl thinks it unfair. Think for yourself and see the only options.
Either way we are done with each other. But believe me child you have seen but the shadowy side of life. In the true darkness you would be lost forever. Remember the old saying "Keep your friends close but your enemies closer."? Your fathers enemies are much closer than he realises.

Dear L.

I think you need to re-read the "old-saying", for it is different than what i know it to be...

Please enlighten me whoever you are. I am always willing to learn from others. Unless of course you are being a pedant and think it has to be "Keep your friends close and your enemies closer.".

My father is not perfect, but two wrongs don't make a right the last time I checked.

I repeat; stay away from him if you have the tiniest shred of a heart left.

Dear L.

The saying is keep a close eye on your enemies, but a closer one on your friends...

It is the saying of the untrusting people... such as myself

Should i trust you with my name?

As you say it is a different saying from the one I know. Still as I said I am always open to new things, I thank you for the lesson.
Should you trust me with your name? Why what could I do with it? A name means nothing. Call me Alexander, Pendar, Lahela or Luincale am I not still me?
I was always taught to trust people only with that which I can afford to lose. Again I thank you for your instructive comments. I am sure we will meet, if we have not already.

Calm Rhi,

I will intervene here as it is needed to keep a Friends family intact. If you even as much as get near him "L" you'll find yourself in a bad position. Also, you are not as cunning as you think.

As for you unknown writer, you are not so unknown, i can narrow it down by your writting, I do not know whom exactly, but i know the group.

No attacks have been made by none here except by the girl whom is taking everything offensivly.

Little girl, your father cant be killed whilst the shadows lurk. He has the support of the shadows, it isnt his time to die yet. This trial is just to show everyone how strong he is, he will make it.

Ah the noble lizard slithers to the rescue.
I do not claim to be cunning nor have I made any threats against my dearest friend Pendar, or anyone else.
As usual you dash in, your sword swinging against all who are unfortunate enough to get in the way. If you would get some one to read you my letters you will discover I have only expressed my concern for Pendars health. I have taken pains to try to find a solution and thought I had.

I was happy to let the subject lie but it seems you are not. By all means make your threats against innocent people oh great "paladin". You are but a bad smell in the breeze, unpleasant but soon dispersed. If I were a threat to my friend Pendar, or his family, you would not even cause my step to falter for a moment. But thankfully this is not the case and I wish him long life and happiness.

Dear L, it is wonderful if we could meet, maybe to discuss more sayings...

If you must know, I am Eliron, and that saying is not an elvish one, something I picked up from other races...

((OOC: unsigned writer is NOT eliron))

By what name do you wish me to call you?

Also I will not have anything to do with this whole affair...so you may approach me without fear of anything...

Some have been hurt even more seriously for not speaking their mind fully. It would be foolish to say that a village does not need someone to guard them, but I have witnessed some things that have made me sick about this group.

I feel sorry for Pendar's situation, but I believe men have a phrase for this... "chickens come home to roost."

These times are so confusing. I wish all of us could come together, just this once, to swear off violence. Would that be possible? I have never raised a sword in my life, and I've outlived so many of you. Just for once, could we put our weapons away? Leave them sheathed? Think harder and hurt less?

I hope so,

Many greetings Eliron. You may call me Nim'ohtar, a reasonable pet name it seems.
I have sat at many a table with you, sharing one of your wonderfull vegetable dishes, so there is no need to arrange a meeting. I know we share the same concerns and hopes for Pendars future, and if all goes well he will get all we discussed. As for my fearing anything I thank you for your concern but there is no need. As has been pointed out to me, as long as I do not wander onto the same road, or into the same building, as Pendar I will not be murdered.
One last saying for you, "Because we focused on the snake, we missed the scorpion."

L.

Slasthulphus what a good idea. As you have read, I have already asked for Pendar to hang up his sword for his, and his families, sake. Unfortunately this was met with threats. A shame realy as I only want to see Pendar and his whole family, and pet, at peace.

Dear Nim'ohtar

I am afraid you are mistaken, this name doesn't mean anything to me, and I do not cook vegetable dishes, but instead specialise on wood and carpentry. I pray that something will refresh your memory...

I do not know your views on Pendar's revival, and I can't agree or disagree upon them, but all life is sacred, and should more just lives be taken then saved by Pendar's restorment, then it will be a problem. However i trust Pendar to do a good job as same he did.

Here is another saying which you might not be familiar with
"The explosion in front doesn't hurt as much as the dagger in the back"

A stab in the back tends to be quick and painless, while an explosion tears off limbs and leaves you lying in a puddle of your own blood. What fun!

Ah Donal has spoken

It seems you are not familiar with it,

The explosion is harmless in this case, and does only distract you whislt someone stabs you dead...

Not fun at all, and I find your description of dying people somewhat insulting

I apologise Eliron, my jest has obviously been ill recieved.

Of course you do not know me by this name, but as I have stated names mean very little.
I am aware of your carpentry skills and in fact I am still using the bow you crafted for me. A very fine weapon which I am sure will serve its purpose well.
Have you started eating meat my friend? A shame after all those lectures you gave us on the evils of eating flesh. You are right though in that none of the meals you ate with me were cooked by your own fair hands.
I too trust that Pendar carries on in the same way he always has, and that he and all that are close to him reap the reward he has so much deserved for so long.

Dear L

I do not eat meat, and I never will... I assumed that you were suggesting that I cooked the vegetables, when in fact I rely on the skills of others, mostly haflings.

It is wonderful to know that my bows are still in order; for I seek to perfect them, according to what I beleive, i should be able to make a perfect bow in about 2000 years time...

May the 5 bless you always and may the arrows meet undead targets
((OOC: WAY OOC here))

PS: Seen by an eagle, the rabbit's life has ended, Seen by an elf archer the target is already dead.
