Proposal: Debate Board

I post here for a request of a debate board. The reasons for this proposal are simple. Recent complaints of a clutter of nonsensical posts in the "Off Topic" were established. Soon, a flutter of new posts have ushered in. These have tried to maintain a intellectual disposition and in some parts they have succeeded, in others they have not.

A recent post by Hadrian went like this:

THIS is the kind of arguments we should be discussing, our opinions with scientific backup, i like how this is going

Although I do not feel it has reached such a level or format of debate, I think people would enjoy a forum. Now that I have stated a motive, I shall move on to the inner workers.

I suggest that, if created, it should be embedded on the off-topic forum. Although the debates may have non-illarion related issues, it may be fun to debate ingame topics as well. It would basically be on teams of 1v1 and 2v2. They would be set up by the two sides and discussed a resolve. Once the resolve is established they will create a topic. In this topic only the posters of the two sides MAY post. No third party interference.

After the debate is set up, a format would be agreed upon. It would have 3 parts of the debate. An opening, cross-examination, rebuttal, and closing. Certain variables can be discussed within the group. A cross-examination could take place in an MSN discussion with time limits, or on the forums with a limit of questions.

I do not expect this to be made, and if so it will not be right away. As of now, I am trying to get in contact with another player to see if he is interested in hosting a debate with me on the off-topic forum. If this can be conducted in a mature manner and if the rules are followed, I see no reason why we need this forum.

For now, I am just putting this out on to this forum to see if other players like the idea. Maybe it will gain speed and maybe it won't. This is merely a suggestion that I feel would bring a more mature side to a debate.

I totally agree, and, if the GMs disagree, I can still make such a board somewhere for us to utilize, and maybe ask someone else, who is not interested in debating, but might be interested in being the moderator, can mod for us.

We could get a link on the mainpage for people to see/follow.

I don't see a reason, why we shouldn't try this. If it doesn't work, we can delete the board again.

I think we should try.

Not at illarion.org. Here we have only one off-topic board - and that's enough. Illarion(s website) is about role playing, not debating.

Maybe Misjbar is installing a board somewhere else.

These are the forums to a computer game.

That being said, it's alien of a thought to me to suggest such a board for these forums, as a matter of fact, judging from past experiences of "debates" on these boards, the idea appears ludicrous to me. Please no hard feelings when I predict that this board would be ill-fated.

We could get a link on the mainpage for people to see/follow.

Only if this forum would also offer a section devoted solely to debates about the actual roleplaying in Illarion, otherwise it's without a point.

Of course I feel that a whole board with off-topic debates is a bit overkill, but I will try to start a roleplaying debate on the off-topic board to see how it goes.
