Trading in the north
I just have to say i'm a bit tired of the way people have started abusing the orc NPC in Varshikar. all i've seen for the past few days including tonight is people sneaking in, without any rp, hiding in shadows or what not. trading off cheap daggers and sucking the copper out of the NPC and then teleporting away so that no one can stop them. and i'm completely tired of it. i wouldn't mind if they at least said hello, being that Ath does't even enforce the tax issue but. whats being done has no rp value what so ever and it's just making varshikar less fun to be in. mayeb the orc could stop paying copper for wears like cheap daggers. i hate to kill a source of money for some of the people who actually do rp, but theres alot less of them then people abusing the NPC.

I could not agree more with your concerns, people certainly do abuse the orc and act as if varshikar is not a city at all and just because there are no players on, they would not be seen entering town.
How ever i must appeal against the end of cheap dagger sales, certainly be the end of me making money

Hehe, that way the NPC won't get any copper if you confront everyone talking to him.
The one you've seen this early morning was a character of me. And no, I had no plans to sell him cheap daggers. I just wanted to buy something. But the words from the house in my back scared me off, so that I had no other choice to run away.
If Varshikar decides to put up tax on entering the land, and put up tax for trading, so the people of Varshikar have no reason to complain about a bad commercial situation.
my 0.02 €

Couldn't have been better said.
Turn the taxes off, along with my 1500 copper debt. Thanks.
That would be so if they were actually complaining about the economic situation in the North. What they *are* complaining about is the roleplaying situation.
Varshikar has less citizens than Trollsbane because Trollsbane is the newbie city where humans start, and since humans are the primary race in the game, there is more of them than anything else.
This doesn't bother them, either, because they're a close-knit group and play at the same times more often than not.
The problem is that people like to pretend they don't exist when they aren't logged in, and walk in and use the trader and dissapear when caught.
The ironic part of it all is that it was once the players of guards complaining that the criminal element only showed up when the guards weren't logging on. Now that the criminal element has a city of their own, the guards are sneaking in to use the NPC when the citizens aren't online.
Refer to my post in the roleplaying guide about downtime. Downtime is your friend. Respect downtime. It exists so that we can all sleep and hold jobs while still playing Illarion.
In any case, we are seeing a reversal of roles. The players of villain have united, exchanged information on how to make better villains, talked over the issue of fair play, and become better. Meanwhile, the players of heroes and greys who once complained about them are far behind.

When I walked through trolls bane yesterday i saw 5 elves, 5 dwarves and 1 human...Varshikar has less citizens than Trollsbane because Trollsbane is the newbie city where humans start, and since humans are the primary race in the game, there is more of them than anything else.
Um...which heroes Aeghol? I see Pendar, the others are not really fitting in the role of a clean and good heroe

There where times when people doing this where just deleted or banned. Be strict and do it.dissapear when caught.
"The guard" are many people and I doubt only "the guard" is sneaking up, abusing the orc npc. But we have always been the real bad guys, huh?the guards are sneaking in to use the NPC when the citizens aren't online.

@Aeghol
If you ask me, the reason that everyone is always in Trollsbane isnt because of the fact that its the human starting city. Its because Trollsbane was the only city with any NPCs at all until recently. Also, (Im pretty sure at least) Trollsbane was the ONLY city for the first few years of the game. I started playing way back before you had to apply for an account, back when all that anyone did was sit around just east of Trollsbane and dig for iron and coal (and gems of course). I dont recall any other cities at that time. So basically everyone goes to Trollsbane because thats what everyone has always done. The new cities (such as Varshikar) that actually have NPCs too finally
are jsut really new to some people and people dont want to change their usual RPing spot.

Oh if that was you Neonfire. well then..i have no choice 200 copper fine, come on hand it over.
but it isn't just you who does it. and your just who i saw that night. people are constantly buying teleporters to Varshikar and not for rp quality. it's because they can either trade wears they can't sell in trolls bane might i add again without any need of rp or use the depot like the town was soley made for there benefit.
oh and by the way Aegohl, wer'e not evil, just highly self serving
.
I don't mind if people come up to Varshikar, but i just wish they'd stop abusing the NPC, or maybe it's not even the NPC it's more like abuse of the teleporter. they disappear without a word. where as some of the better players i find using them will at least rp, using a book or scroll, adding a flash of light for effect maybe. not just run into a shadow and disappear. but with the map so large the way it is the teleporters are more then helpful. *grumble* see we need to build a wall. forget the castle, WALL people. and of course to move the teleport spot outside of it.
i'm sure neon won't mind contributing to the wall funds, he does owe us 200 copper after all

Haha, see if it was Devrah going up there she wouldn't teleport away, she'd probably trade with the NPC right in front of you and tell you to go play with yourself when you asked her for taxes
See, I think you should think what your character is like. If your character is a shy, lawful type they wouldn't be anywhere near Varshikar in the first place. If your character is sneaky and slimy and doesn't already live in Varshikar (^_~), then at least type some good #me's to illustrate that, such as #me slips around the corner of the building, glancing right and left, before approaching the orc and whispering
Don't just appear and disappear in the shadows, that's lame

Obviously some peoples chars arent neccesarily lawful OR sneaky types. Some of them are just greedy and want an easy get-rich-quick scheme (such as selling cheap daggers).
I found out the price of cheap daggers at varshikar... but I've only sold the ones that were in my depot at the time that I found out how much the orc bought them for. Havent sold any since. And I WONT be selling any more. See Athian? Not ALL of us are evil greedy RP hating morons.

nah not all of you. and Varshikar is not evil! Devrah just has social and emotion problems. and i think she eats babies (hows that for slander
)
and of course it's not everyone but enough people do it to make it annoying. i mean Ath trades in town all the time and no one taxes him i do it in front of a store full of people and guards have been there. whenever anyone asks i just say Devrah said i could. (muha!!). nah but i should...anyway. i'm not blaming everyone but its still problematic from my POV.

That's okay, the one time I did go to Varshikar to trade, I told them Athian said I could ^_^Athian wrote:nah not all of you. and Varshikar is not evil! Devrah just has social and emotion problems. and i think she eats babies (hows that for slander)

This gets my goat just as strongly as when I ban some one and they walk back into town the moment I logg off, with out a care in the world and surprise when they get killed.
Reentry is not the issue much as stealing from the trader is not.
How ever what makes you people believe that Aristeause's loyal servant the NPC orc would even trade with you?.
Strangers are not welcome in the north currently and it stands to be reason Arist would have briefed his trader on who should be traded with or not.
If people cannot think that laterally and imagine just a little outside the box I do wonder
You are not allowed to trade there, the orc is a northern citizen so unless you have some really good rp reason and mannerism while doing it. I find it pretty unacceptable; then again maybe that is just me.
As aeghol said the game world/politics do not cease to exist when a few players are not logged on.
Now i am sure Athian would be willing to sell your daggers for a share of the loot, I know other northen citizens would be willing to.
No for those who wonder why I find more of an issue with the orc in the north being abused, Than i do with northern citizens trading in trollsbane.
It is simple trollsbane is the epicenter of the game, we do not need a wealthy trader to attract players. We are also not as actively pursuing the whole tax issue. This mind you is all going to change in time if i have my wicked way.
As i personally would like to see Trollsbane cease to be the be all and end all of rp in Illarion.
We actually had a quieter server when town was over grown.
Any way that’s my opinion if you want to sell cheap daggers to the north, rp it find a northern friend ro join there ranks perhaps even

YAY!!!
Someone else actually agrees with me that Trollsbane is used to much and that to many people think that its the only good place to RP!!!
Well maybe now I WONT follow through with my plan to ask a GM to do a quest that would destroy Trollsbane for say half a year or so...
Because if ONE person agrees that might mean that MORE agree. I must say that people DO need to use other towns than Trollsbane for RP.

Destorying trollsbane is not the answer either, not to mention it would only happen over pendars dead body.
What is required is a change in players habits and the way we approach this game. Is only going to happen over time as towns adopt a more individual voice and and begin expressely looking after there citizens/rp community.
There are numerouse reasons why our game is actually stronger with a more diverse population not all gathered in trollsbane. Not least of all that different opinions and Politics are one off the key points that makes Illa unique and not just a graphic chat with skills on the side.
It is also only through 3-4 active towns that we will ever come back to days of up heaval and strife that breed truly memorable rp and make and break names and heros.
Lastly many of us are either playing new characters or are new to the game, it is harder to find a identity and unique place in the game that lets both your character and rp shine with out the unique oppurtunitys offered with out something meaningful to be part of.
Currently trollsbane is equivolent to a squat a hang out for rp.
In the end i think it steals character from our game characters in the long term.
