New user (& Linux)

Hi, I'm just waiting to get my account revised. In the while I just thought that it would be nice to take a look to these forums and introduce myself, and also to take a look to the documentation of the game and the project.

By the way -and a bit offtopic- I would like to know if someone has managed to get the client running under any posix-like OS (for example linux) thru wine. I know that support for DX-7.0 is not complete but is very mature in some of the fields, so I will try it under wine as soon as I can.

For now I managed to start it under wine, but, of course, I can't still log in, because my account is still inactive. Time will tell... ;)

Also, I noticed in the main page that there is an ongoing project to make a linux port of the client. I would like to know if the project is active right now (I found no more info, but if I missed the place I beg forgiveness and ask you to redirect me to the correct place to look for the info). I would like to know, for example, if there is a cvs repository or something like that, where to fetch the thing, or, on the other side, some place where I could look for binaries, depending on the game license (I havent managed to find it on the home site, it is 3:30 am here and I'm tired :( so I will not look any more today, tomorrow maybe ;) )

Thanks in advance for any response and for your help. I am willing to try this game. And, please, no responses in the line "why would I want to run this game under linux?" ;).

- Regards, people. :D

Last I heard, linux version is still in developement. Many of the devs/gm's are often on the irc channel #illarion, any quakenet server, during the day. The team is always looking for more talented staff members especially scripters.

...Especially client programmers ;)

There will be a linux version of the binaries with the new client. Up to now there is only a windows version.

Your account should have been accepted by now (if not rejected ;) ). I didnt manage to get it run under wine, but it works fine with vmware of course.
Also, I noticed in the main page that there is an ongoing project to make a linux port of the client. This project is alive. Due to the not-so-good quality of the actual client (the one you downloaded) we were forced to develop a completely new one, which then will run under windows and linux (and any other OS you can imagine, maybe even your cell phone, given that it has enough ram *g*).
We just lack staff members with programming skills. There is a (non-public) svn repository for that new client (of course, I tend to say).

Illarion is under development, but playable and open for everyone. If you find that you like that game, and if you want to help us in your spare time and have fun programming, well, just let us know (#illarion in IRC or martin@illarion.org ).

Thanks, people. I appreciate all the responses.

My account was activated, now I created a character and will wait for it to get aproved. About the wine thing, if I get any results I will post around.

About vmware, well, I suppose it should have no problem running this client, the problem is that I really have no plan to use such thing on my home box, since that would represent to pay two licenses (wmware and windows).

For now I cant consider myself skilled enough to contribute to this game with anything usefull (plus I dont have the time for now). So, for now, I will just play if I can. I hope I can see you all in game, and thanks again. ;)
