i am in the building you go to when you choose to be a craftsman, could you tell me where i could find a large town or a city?

That location depends on race, not the profession you choose.

Starting locations depend on race, not class choice.
I guess you're an elf, so you would have ended in Vanima, the elven town.
There's a dock which brings you to the main island.

There are no ships, just a teleport point at the end of the dock.

OK.. walk to the edge of the pier.. and you will arive at another pier.. where there is an NPC [jamal]

If you instead arrive at an island with sandy edges and no-one, go back the pier and try again...
