Players Of Illarion Make Graphics

Post by Terook Telcove »

Alot of people have been talking about animals in game, well I think it would make the load on the gm's easier if they had graphics for them. If they already dont that is. So to all Artists in the game please create a picture for these animals

List is taken from the to-do list

Hare
Elk
Wild boar
Wolf
Bison
Bear
Crocodile
Tiger
Shark
Snake
Bat
Rat
Eagle
Mammoth

I don't know what to say to this, except, Devs develope the game, gm's are game masters. Basically all the graphic artists who are up to snuff are already devs.

Well this also gives the chance for other creative minds to come up with new shapes and such, because maybe somebody is up to snuff they just didnt know what to make a picture of. Now they do

Good idea, I've already started on this. Here is my results:

What do you think?

On a serious note: Grobby knows what he's talking about. For a long time Grobby put up graphics here and all the graphics were turned down, but he kept working hard and trying to make things and sooner or later, yes, he became a developer.

However, it's not a situation where you make graphics and we put them in. You see, there is a certain kind of shading, light, and positioning that items have to be in. That being said, sure, if you make good work, Martin will tell you how to make graphics for Illarion, and then you'll be able to make dogs, cats, tigers, and bears. Until then, you really can't help us too much, I hate to say.

Cheers,

I cant make graphics anyways. But still how will you know if somebodies animals aren't good enough if you dont even see them. Maybe a person can make a wolf excellent but cant make a Bear worth crap. See what I mean, then if the animal is acceptable, a Dev gets it and puts all the shading, lighting blah blah blah stuff together if it isnt already

Because once the image is rendered it can't be edited in that way. On top of this, the devs could make a bunny rabbit in the time it would take them to fix other people's bunny rabbits.

Sure, if you have an item, animal, plant, or building part that looks nice, post it, but it won't end up in the game. Instead, think of it as an application to be a developer.

We don't need rabbits. What is a shark useful for? What kind of challenge would a snake put up? Rats are the apex of usefulness right? We need bats to eat our fruit or something? What good would an eagle serve? Elks, boars, bison, and bears would be useful for leather, perhaps when there is a leather quality system like iron ingots, some can be made into armor, others into bags or whatever. Currently most of these things, simply aren't useful, and we are working on more than vanity in illarion. We don't need a million wild npc's just because they look cool. Most of these would take a decent bit of time to model, texture, and animate. Bear for main island, tiger for lizard islands, elk for elven island. Bears and tigers could drop raw pelts (yet 2 more graphics) for nicer fur leather armor. Elks have horns (useful for composite bow maybe) , and raw leather. I think thats probobly about as far as we need to go speaking in medium time frame. The others might go in if we hit a serious plateau in programming department (about as likely as pigs who can kill demons). Thats pretty much all I have to say about that.
