Could we actually tame animals, and use them; to fight with them [if they're dogs or something], to ride them [horses] or use them in our jobs... [example you train a horse to carry items, or a bird to scout around before, or to send message]
I am suggesting this as animals play a quite useless part, except maybe to obtain raw materials, or to hunt them...
