How to escape monsters?
I went in game today, and noticed a change in the monster speeds...
Not only will they follow you across the world, but they'll actually hit you too. How is a character supposed to escape if they encounter a monster? Was this feature implemented for a technical reason?
I mean, I just couldn't get away. Thankfully, two people in town helped out, one more scratch would've turned my poor Delanroth into a cloud.

The one really nice thing about the way the monsters were is that they seemed to lose interest. Perhaps because one could get X amount of blocks away, we perhaps dont need to return to slow monsters although I personally found those pleasant. Certainly a way that they wont follow you around the entire map would be nice.
Just my thoughts,

That's exactly true, yes. It was because you were able to get out of sight for the monster.Pendar wrote:The one really nice thing about the way the monsters were is that they seemed to lose interest. Perhaps because one could get X amount of blocks away,
We might consider that later.Certainly a way that they wont follow you around the entire map would be nice.
It's not that easy, without making it too easy for the players

However, you will have to get used to the fact that monsters now are more dangerous than they were.

Most of us hunt in groups at the moment, once every one is skilled and armored again people either will or will not. I just saw a bandit follow a new character "no idea of the player" all the way from the north woods only to kill them in town. I cant help but feel the faster monsters are going to cause chaose. Weather this will be better or worse for rp time will tell. Personally i am not sure I like it.
Were as I appreciate slower monsters can be abused, expierence from the old client states that warriors who want to skill up are more than able regardless of monster speed. I think slower monsters gave much more chance to explore and as such make use of our new large map. The game was not so monster focused and it was pleasant to be able to run from trolls and ogers.
Thats my feelings any way,

Korg said,
why not make it so the monsters are ina a certain area of the map and wont leave that area....gives people a chance to run if they need to and the monsters wont chace you around the map...but keep them the same speed of course.
this would also cause a problem because if you restrict areas powergamers will take long range wepons and stange a block away while fighting thuse training their attack skills with out them needing to regain health...this is very unrealistic and quite frankly not fair

I have a terrible connection, how ever that is not the motivation for my thoughts. I have always had bad lag with shitty dial up connection out of africa
Perhaps a compramise would be slightly slower monsters, making them escapable even to slow characters but at the same time putting an end to what some may term abuse.
I dont know just my thoughts, either way I will be fine its not a huge issue.
I just think that illarion should be about more than monster killing by haveing the monsters behaving like speedy homeing missiles we decide that any one not wanting to be town bound should be able to kill them. Forget strolls with out armor or relaxing walks through the forrest, as now seeing a troll is a seriouse problem.
Just how i feel coming from my rp expierence on the new map with slower monsters. It has simply been more fun traveling with people and such.

I agree that you should be able to just wander through most places without carrying armour, so long as you are prepared to run at the first sign of trouble, and are of average pace or above. I think encumbered characters should be catchable by most monsters, and I think that it should be tough to run away from something once you've engaged it in combat. And I'm in favour of having some monsters, that naturally inhabit only one or two known areas of the map, that are faster than all but the quickest characters. Then those who like to walk and talk and RP somewhere outside of town can do so as long as they aren't lugging a lot of stuff, and avoid the known danger spots.
I would personally recommend either making monsters just slower than normal unencumbered people or having different terrain speed modifiers for different monster types. So if a troll is faster than a human in the forests, but slower elsewhere, you know to walk on the edges of the woods unless you feel brave. Similarly for ogres and plains, or rocky ground or somesuch. No idea if that is feasible though.

Just got to manuver the creatures into a slower area, like rocks, sand, forest.
Or make them bump into trees
Or be like me and be able to outrun them
But even with me running it takes a good couple minutes to get away from them, if you dont lead them into stuff. And I got the highest agility and dexterity. The people that are slower have no chance. Give them a chance

Same thing happened to me both with trolls and bandits. Damn bandits and their green-blue bum clothes.Ezor Edwickton wrote:Some monsters (bandits for sure) are way to fast. My character is probably a faster than average one, and he can't outrun one.
There are some bandits who you'll brush off like dust, and others who will just plain not submit to your ability...approaching one of these harder bandits is just a death sentence.
I don't mind fighting in groups, but I've yet to find anybody courageous enough to come with my character. Thugs aren't social people anyway.

To say it again, The monsters aren't really faster than you, But they have pingtimes from 0 ns. This is the reason for the fast monsters. I haven't thought about that as I changed the monster speed back to the old way. I will give them more ActionPoints loss in the next server version so they will be slower.
