Ferry rides

Post by Moirear Sian »

As I've proposed on the "teleportation"-thread, and on behalf of many players complaining about the island being too big for them, I'd like to propose the following:

My original proposal:
Ships -- make it so the sailor at the docks sells "tickets" (pay-for-teleports) to some spots around the shoreline of the island, perhaps interconnected by more seafarers at those spots.
Alternatively, this could be done simply by expanding the dock size and adding more teleporters to the ferry-havens around the island. But making a "ferryman-system" where you have to pay for the rides doesn't sound too bad either, on the long run.

Docking spots that would make sense to me:
- Eldan Monastery
- Fairy Tale Beach (somewhere far up northwest)
- Bloodskull's Bay (the bay southwest of the Skulls cave)
- Black Rock (northeastern-most spot beyond the mountains)
- Zelphia Apex (the peninsula north of the Zelphia shrina)
- Shady Grove (southeastern apex)
- Southern Forests (southernmost point beyond the troll forests)

Note: I made some of the location names up. (;

Accually, there could be the ticket seller, but instead of walking on teleporters, there is another "sailor" npc you use the ticket with to be transported to such place. That way you don't need like 20 different teleport tiles. This is also another anti-inflation measure by getting money out of player hands.

Oh, that's a big no no right there. Even implying that there is any way to travel across water is pure evil.

(For all you late people who checked in on this channel, Fooser is referring to the fact that swimming is a turned down proposal. Or so me thinks.)

I didn't even ask about adding a swimming feature, just for people to accept that lizards can...swim. Then the discussion shifted to boats too, and everyone complained about that also, go figure.

In the upcoming revised version of Moonsilver lizards can only swim on land and elves can fly. Too bad.

I say a way to quicken transportation would be pretty cool. It takes forever to walk somewhere.

I'm all for exploration but...phew.

If the ferryman idea could actually be realized, I was wondering if this could also apply to land. In many RPG's, I'm sure a lot of you have seen priced rides over land, often in the form of vehicles or transportation creatures (that would be so cool! ^^ ). I just thought of this since Bloodhearte mentioned the drag of towing yourself across the islands for hours and hours to get yourself *there*.

Sure, you can pay the creature tamer to take you across. What? What's that? You don't want to pay the money? Well, alright...... you can walk then, we're not going to complain .... Just bring some good shoes  ......

Overland transportation is too inefficient for an island. Whereas in a main land mass there would be many cities not near the coast or river, it would be practical to use animals and carts.

(for everyone who hates runescape do not read this post)

On runescape there is a quest that then allows you to use a Gnome Glider to travel around the game.

Prehaps a glider would be a good idea?

Or maybe a hippogryph! Or a goblin zeppelin! Or boats with a weird design! Wyverns! Bats! Gryphons!

WoW inspired ideas.

It was thought about this on the RL-Meeting and something like this will come.
