Overall yes, you do. As I said, a video game can't control itself, at least not to a point of complexity that a human can. Yes, yuo control him. I myself however choose his actions based on what I think my character would do if he was alive, not what i want to do. You aren't getting this.Cliu Beothach wrote:Actually the idea is very simple, it is when you put it into action it becomes complex. My basic saying is that, of course your character is seperate from you, but YOU control him and when you make his traits that defines how he acts. You do have control.

And tell that to cliu, not just me. We BOTH argued with it. you are beign biased, which is bad when trying to argue based on...well actualy it's bad for when arguing/debating.The Returner wrote:Then get it through your skull you were arguing nothing all along.falco1029 wrote:That's kind of silly, that's what I was trying to say.The Returner wrote:This is EXACTLY what Cliu is trying to say.

Both of you stop bickering please, this isent about roleplaying, its about a solution we as players can come up with something very important. And make a note, last time we as players did it, the island ended up dried up and most if not all of the "Good" players packed up shop. I think we should avoid making a wrong descision this time around.falco1029 wrote:yes, but our argument stemmed based on a fact we bnoth wanted to support our point. We still disagree at a point.

One very important point,
This is crucial as i see it happening allready. Please new old, established unknowen. Players in general dont get to hung up on which way this one goes. Two weeks after the wipe how ever chaotic, which ever way it swings. We are going to have an awesome game with more features again.
I can just allready see this becoming a larger than life issue. Weather i keep or lose Pendar in two weeks I will be at home in a new role with the same great people under what ever names they keep or choose to rp with.
My thanks to developers for creating this oppurtunity and putting work into the new map and client. It is easy to forget as we argue over the wipe that is really only a side affect of hours and hours and labour from a volunteer. So that we end up with an even better game.
Thats what really matters

I've seen a lot of talk about forgetting names and the like... but... Wouldn't you be able to keep your names if you kept your names.tbl(or whatever extension it is) file?
If that's the case, then we'd avoid a lot of problems right there (at least, the memory loss one)

Well just because you aren't this time doesn't make you right. Sincew we can't KNOW at this point which is better, it's best to do what more people want. The Returner wrote:I was "popular" choice last time as well.falco1029 wrote:I think anything we could argue has been argued. Hold on returner, explain to me how you think 'chaos' won't happen if the history is erased. How is it logical for us to have the cities of silverbrand, greenbriar, varshikar and the bloodskull cave and no history to it? We are keeping those, it is in the map, to late to change.
The map is already made, Trolls Bane is basically the same according to the Gms, there is a Grey Rose castle. Everything in game now building wise is supposed to be in the new map.
Your arguement of starting over completely holds no weight.
Why not make a new character and start a brand new colony somewhere far from the towns? You can effectively start over and have an interesting roleplay then.

We can know, if half of you use some kind of basic grade school logic.
No, The numbers will no longer be accurate, thus the file will be regarded as false by the server and likely will be disregarded.Cain wrote: I've seen a lot of talk about forgetting names and the like... but... Have you ever started a new game before, or are you being ignorant? by that logic, every fantasy game map for an ALPHA TESTING game should have backround story?Garett Gwenour wrote:Hold on returner, explain to me how you think 'chaos' won't happen if the history is erased. As stated before, some people have set backrounds they dont want to part with, these are far more permenant then a server. Why not make a new character and start a brand new colony somewhere far from the towns? You can effectively start over and have an interesting roleplay then.

Finally... I've asked this question like five hundred times and no one has answered me until now. Thanks. The Returner wrote:falco1029 wrote:Well just because you aren't this time doesn't make you right. As for input on the topic:
I like Dyluck's idea (I was actually thinking that we need to get Drahken in on this a while ago), but if such is not feasible, then Pendar's third idea would be great.
If it is rp based, yes.The Returner wrote: Have you ever started a new game before, or are you being ignorant? by that logic, every fantasy game map for an ALPHA TESTING game should have backround story?
As i said, you can make a similar one, and if you dont want to you are being pickyAs stated before, some people have set backrounds they dont want to part with, these are far more permenant then a server.

Then you would hate actual game development, and should go to UO, where everything is handed to you on a silver platter.
Then I'll be picky with the rest of my friends, thanks. As i said, you can make a similar one, and if you dont want to you are being pickyAs stated before, some people have set backrounds they dont want to part with, these are far more permenant then a server.

I didn't say anything like this. I said an rpbased game should have an rp backround. The Returner wrote:Then you would hate actual game development, and should go to UO, where everything is handed to you on a silver platter.
Feel free, but that holds little in the way of reason to make us give up our choice. Then I'll be picky with the rest of my friends, thanks.
