The Tree of Life and Magic

Post by The Blood Corps »

On a starry night, a beautiful orchard of trees with exotic fruits, light is all around, the stars, the moonlight, the fruits, a fairy sits with his back against a big tree and his arms around his knees, seemingly deep in thought. A young looking female fairy eyes him from nearby, inspecting him, and concludes he is asleep. With a smile on her face she plucks a small apple as silently as she could and then hurls it at the sleeper. Without opening his eyes, the intended victim simply lifts his arm and catches the apple right before it hits him, then turns and looks at the foiled assailant

Wiezlude: Andrelia, you know better than to waste food in times like these.

Andrealia: I'm not wasting it, I was going to eat it.

She smiles and takes the apple from his hand and sits down beside him

Andrealia: Is the harvest really so bad again this year?

Wiezlude: Yes, ever since the Mana Oak's magic began to grow weaker our situation has been getting worse and worse. Every year the trees produce fewer and fewer fruits, and there are less plants and trees themselves.

Andrealia: Its so strange, that the Mana Oak would just suddenly began to weaken. What if one day it completely loses its magic? What will happened to us then?

Wiezlude: The Mana Oak is the life blood and source of magic for all our people. If anything ever happened to it, our people will surely be doomed.

Andrealia: Why....why is this happening to us....

Wiezlude: I don't know....the king says its because haven't been worshipping the godess Oldra enough...

Anderalia: Ha! I wouldn't rely on anything the kings says. He's been acting strange the past few years, come to think of it, it was around the time when the Mana Oak began to lose energy. The shock must've gotten to him.

Wiezlude: I know what you mean....sometimes i don't understand what he is thinking, like when he ordered the Blood Corps to be created and to get the money from the people from that town. But none the less we must follow the orders of the king, even though i felt bad about it.

Andrealia: Oh don't feel so bad brother. You were even able accomplish the task without a single fight breaking out. Not a single drop of blood was shed.

Wiezlude: But still.....

He pauses and looks up to the night sky for a moment.

Wiezlude: I wonder why the king would have us do such things though....
Andrealia: Hmf! I say it must be those strange hooded advisors that follow the king around nowadays. They must be giving the king weird advice or feeding him some kind of potion!

Wiezlude: Yes....I don't like those hooded advisors much....there's too much we don't know about them. We don't know where they came from and we haven't even seen their faces before, the king just suddenly brings them out and appoints them his high advisors. Then he goes and puts them in charge of protecting the Mana Oak, replacing our most trusted guards who served for so long. I wonder what is the story behind those hoods....

Andrealia: That's right! The other day i wanted to go visit the Mana Oak but the guards stopped me and told me that I had to wait until that Ophori was finished first! Who does he think he is!

Wiezlude: Hmm yes Ophori....the strangest of those hooded advisors i must say. As our powers get weaker and weaker with the Mana Oak, his magic seems to remain strong. I can sense it when he he's nearby. I wonder why....

The two sit there, one with his eyes looking up at the stars in deep thought once again, while the other eats her apple silently while studying the expressions on her brother's face

The Tree of Life and Magic

In a dimly lit tower in the corner of a regal castle with white walls and cone shaped roofs made from the finest red brick, a fairy quietly ascends the spiral stairwell in the middle of the night with a small torch in his hand. He reaches the top where he finds a door with a guard sitting asleep in front of it. He frowns and puts the torch down on the wall, then proceeds to shake the guard until he wakes up

Wiezlude: Wake up! Stop sleeping on the job!

Guard: mmm....uh...huh!?...oh! Lord Wiezlude!

Wiezlude: Open the door. I want to go in.

Guardoh....um...

Wiezlude: What's wrong?

Guard: ..umm...well you see...the king has given orders to let no one through except for his high advisors.

Wiezlude: What!? I'm the head scribe around here! I come and go through here all the time as I please, and now I need to do my regular check of the inventory, so open the door.

Guard: But....

Wiezlude: You dare to disobey me!?

Guard: I...

Wiezlude: Open the door!

The guard takes out the key and opens the door reluctantly. He steps aside as Wiezlude steps forward with his torch and pushes open the massive iron doors to the treasure chamber. He puts his torch on the wall to light the chamber and walks to the center of the room where there was a huge chest with a small beam of light shining on it from a small window. He opens the chest to reveal several shiny artifacts and pouches with hearts, birds, clouds, musical notes, and other different symbols on them. He rummages through them for a while until he finally turns around with a frown on his face.

Wiezlude: Several of the pouches are missing. Do you know what happened here?

Guard: Uh..well...one of the high advisors came here a few days ago...

Wiezlude: What!? Who does he think he is, coming in here and taking things without first telling me. These are highly dangerous fairy dusts that needs to be handled very carefully. Didn't you tell him that he needs my permission before he can take anything? Who was it?

Guard: I...It was Ophori....he said that he had permission from the king himself and that it was needed for something very important.

Wiezlude: That Ophori! Well we'll just see about that, I'm going to go ask the king myself.

And with that Wiezlude shuts the chest and storms out of the treasure chamber and grabs the torch with him as the guard follows close behind and quickly locks the doors once again.

Two candles flicker on the table in the king's quarters, a room beautifuly furnished with red carpets and curtains. The king stands looking out the window while a hooded man stands nearby behind him

King: So, how is it?

Ophori: Don't worry the people in that town will be too occupied to notice anything going on around here.

King: Good. How much longer before we've drained all the energy from that blasted tree? I hate disguising as a fairy.

Ophori: I think we have enough energy to bring back to the Emperor, we don't need to take what little energy is left, its insignificant.

King: Why not just take it anyways?

Ophori: If we take anymore it may kill the Mana Oak and the fairies.

King: But why spare these miserable creatures!

Ophori: Calm down, Ezenza. We can still use them. We've taken a lot of their energy but they still have enough to do our dirty work for us.With the Mana Oak at our mercy, they'll have no choice but to do as we say.

King: Hey that's a great idea. Hahaha...you never cease to amaze me Ophori!

Just then the doors burst open and a furious Wiezlude with a sword in hand charges in.

King: Huh? You!

Ophori: What did you hear!?

Wiezlude: I heard everything already! Who are you two!

Ophori: Well I guess there's no harm in letting you know...there's nothing you can do anyways.

Ophori takes off his hood and removes their disguise to reveal their true form

Wiezlude: What!? Humans! What have you done with the king!

King: He's resting peacefully....in the next realm that is hahahaha! And you'll all be joining him there if you all don't do as we say!

Wiezlude: My people will never be your slaves!

Ophori: Tsk Tsk. Don't forget that the Mana Oak is at our mercy now. We could dispose of it and all of you any time.

Wiezlude: My people would rather die than be your slaves!

Ophori: Yes, I knew you would say something like that. Even as we speak, my men have already gone around to take the women and children prisoner. We'll execute them one by one if rest of you don't do as we say. HAHAHAHA!

Wiezlude: Bastard!!

Wiezlude charges at Ophori with sword and magic but he just wasn't strong enough to win. Outside swords clashed and fires burst throughout the night, but with the Mana Oak's energy almost completely diminished, the faires fell easily to the overpowering human minions of Ophori. By dawn they were thoroughly defeated and the women and children were taken prisoner. The others then had no choice but to bow down before Ezenza and Ophori.....

Deep  in the woods, a tall Lizard sits on a stone beside a small streams and listen to the words of the water.
After everything is told to him  he rises deep in thoughts. Something must be done to help the fairies forces must be gathered. I must hurry, back into town and find help.
With this in mind he began to walk on a fast pace back the long way. Back to find help for those who need it.

ooc: (I just wanted to use this post as an example of how people often misunderstand what is roleplaying. An in character post isn't simply one that doesn't include ooc terms. It still has to be plausible from your character's point of view. Part of his post was marked ooc but in fact the entire post is ooc because all of its contents were just directed perhaps at GMs but not any character in the game. Since the story was only presented for the players to see and not "someone posts a scroll at the tavern" or something, a character in the game would not know about it unless they have a good explanation.)

Good story, I am enjoying it a lot. Is Wiezlude dead or...?
My he was quite a pestilence to us... a shame to see him die, though.
Keep it going, it is great.

Ophori and Ezenza stand inside the king's quarters in their own clothes no longer in disguise. Behind Ophori a servant holds some bags and packages for him. Ophori is giving Ezenza his last orders as he prepares to leave.

Ophori: It's time for me to go and bring this energy back to the Emperor.

Ezenza: What about these fairies?

Ophori: You stay here and keep and eye on things here.

Ezenza: What should we do with them?

Opohri: Hmm...we'll figure what to do with them later. Until then just use them as slaves to collect more materials for building the Fortress.

Ezenza: Heheh of course. That'll take the labour off some of our own men and keep them fresh.

Ophori: Right. And remember to post more guards at the Mana Oak, you never know what those fairies might be able to do if they get to it...

Ezenza: Don't worry if they dare try anything I'll make them wish they had never been born hahahahaha!

Ophori: Just be careful...

A servant appears at the door.

Servant: Lord Ophori, the ship has arrived!

Ophori: Alright I'm leaving now. I'm leaving things here in your hands now Ezenza.

Ezenza: Don't worry, you can count on me!

Meahwhile, in a jail cell in the basements of the castle, Wiezlude sits, rubbing a wound on his arm. Nearby he can hear the echoes of women and children crying for food and water. He punches the wall, frustrated at his defeat and his failure to detect the intruders until it was too late. A million thoughts and questions raced through his mind. Is Andrealia and his friends safe? Who were those humans? What did they want with the energy of the Mana Oak? Who was that Emperor they spoke of? Then suddenly he feels a slight tremor and hears a small burrowing sound beneath the ground.....
