Hear all? See all?

Post by Terook Telcove »

Dont you love characters that can see behind walls, and hedges even though you are hiding behind them. Or the ones that can hear a bee piss two miles off. I got to say I love those characters, they just make everything so much fun.

Oh complaint, Okay I dont mind if a player says that they can hear my halfling, or see him if they role play it. But if you tell somebody to role play it and their characters say Oh well I can here ya, and thats all well I got to say that pisses me off.

#me's please.

Thanks for reading my rant

I'd like to add a short "rant".

Although it shouldn't be necessary to say this, it seems to me some people still haven't understood the concept of not expressing thoughts in #me's. I can't read your minds-- therefore you shouldn't use #me's that express your thoughts, instead, use #me's that describe your exterior, and demeanor, and perhaps how these thoughts are expressed.

I.e. instead of: #me recites spells in her mind-
use: #me 's eyes narrow, staring blankly into nothing

I'm done.

I try to always #me when I am doing something that a perceptive person could spot. I hope that I can rely on the players to ignore things that their character can't know, but I don't know what their character can and can't spot so I have to assume they are incredibly powerful. I have done things before like, "#me 's eyes are so slightly reddened that only someone looking very closely would notice", and the players around reacted appropriately, that is most of them ignored it, but those who had cause to look carefully and to notice such things, asked my character about it. I have also had my character sit, with his eyes closed, oblivious to the character standing over him with a double axe, who was deciding whether to kill my character or not. It was a hugely enjoyable scene for me, watching the other character decide what to do, knowing that it was totally out of my hands because it was beyond my character's control.

So basically, Terook, stick with it and hope that others can see that it is more fun to play non-omniscient characters.

The double axe part. You would be surprised how many people actually do not have a problem roleplaying like that. *points to a certain person*

But on the other side we have mega good thiefes who are able to hide behind a pebble, and run along the street without making any sound and that in full platemail with a backpack full of weapons and with a shield and a sword in the hands. See my point? Who said that you can't be heared? Who says that you don't step on a bough and make noise? You assume the others make forced rp because they hear you, but you forced that they can't here you ;) nobody is right, and nobody is wrong. Nobody is better than somebody other.
