A worthy Adversary

Post by D.C. »

His leather boots crushed the weeds growing out of the rocks in the barren lands of Varshikar. He stood firmly, his pale skin standing out against the dark black leather armor he wore. Blood was spattered all over the desert and rocks. A battle had just been fought and Damien Connelly stood on the winning side.
The loser stood several paces away from Damien. They stared each other down. Damien did not show it, but he was afraid for his life, he saw the man infront of him face two of the strongest Bloodskulls and not fall.
"You know much Damien." The man said.
"It is amazing how much you learn when you play the fool for a week or two... I know you are a servant of Bjomur and I know your purpose." Damien said his voice steady.
"You count on an old talisman to beat me. You count of these orcs to beat me? You have already failed. We will meet again Damien." The nameless human said and disapeared into the changing sands.

"Whub going on?" Wiergraf asked Damien.

Damien explained some of what he knew, he kept much of it secret, he wasn't sure how much he knew was truth. Much of it was true he knew. His life had just changed dramatically. He didn't intend to challenge this servant of Bjomur, but it had happened. This was his test to prove to himself he was able to replace Bjomur.
He had hoped it would happen after he was trained in swordplay so he could handle the talisman properly. He had hoped he would master his magick before he would face this enormous obstacle. But his hopes had been unanswered and now he would have to deal with it.
How ironic he thought as he spoke to Pendar, it was too evils against each other, both trying to best the other.
Damien planned to come out on top.

And he had named the servant that had no name. It was Death now.

- That man, the Bjolmur child... He has... He has Mary, Chak...
By hearing Salesh words, Chak' Ysshirr felt his world was becoming colder. He felt an inner desire, that desire to fight when he lost control of his emotions. He knew it well. It was his curse. The Red Rage.
- Tell me everything, Lessssh... You know the girl isss important to me - he said, trying to control himself.
But Salesh refused to tell, saying it could put Chak in danger. Ysshirr looked inside the eyes of his job partner, not recognizing him anymore.
- Fine... - he says, walking toward the door of Vashikar castle. - I'll have to dissscover it on my own...
The lizard leaves the castle and arrives in town, trying to think where to start. "Damien...", he thinks and heads inside the depot building. Soon the sound of metal can be heard from outside.
- What's happening, Chak - asks Wiergraf, entering the building.
Chak looks up to the orc. He is siting on the floor wearing his knight boots. Inside the plate armor, the lizard seemed to think.

Moments later, he and Wiergraf leaves the depot building, both wearing heavy armors and carrying equipment for what seemed to be a long trip. The lizard Ysshirr looks to the night sky and blinks vertically. "I will find you...", he thinks. The orc is waiting some steps in front of him. Chak looks to the orc and nods, he closes his visor helm and start to walk into the desert.

There she was Mary, the child. And there he was Death... An enigma to him. Beside him stood Derik. To the other side was Salesh, his guard.
Mary was already showing signs of aggresion, Damien was certain it was too late to get Mary away from Death... He told her Death was going to use her to destroy the island.
She ignored him, he had to get them seperated.
Death was slain his armour strewn on the ground.
Mary proved Damien right when she attacked him for killing Death, the servant of Bjolmur. But he was surprised, she was not powerful like he thought..
Maybe he could beat stop her and prevent Bjolmur's plan completely. Maybe he had overestimated Bjolmur's power.
How long did Bjolmur have to free Moshran from his prison?
Bjolmur was a fool for not freeing Moshran. He was a fool, he wanted to kill people who would die on there own by age. He had 1000s of years to free Moshran and he never did.
Damien would free Moshran... After he had done away with Bjolmur and his servants.

After Mary watched Damien running away from her and after she met that stranger called "Death" again, she sat at the shore and shaked her head while looking over the sea
"how foolish a man can be? Bjolmur will have her fun with this poor creature called Damien."

Staggering from the cross within trollsbane a muscular figure makes his way north and meets with the one known as Mary.

After a long discussion the two part and the man makes his way into a cave and unearths a crate which he crack opens.

Within can be seen the glint of armour.

A smile crosses the mans face.

The small figure, garbed in ornate robes watched the proceedings throughout the night. He watched as the child "Mary" sat by the sea and thought the very same thoughts that she did about Bjolmur.

The small figure, indistinguishable against the evening backdrop returned to town and re-assumed his public life.

Later that day after the battle against the one called Death, Salesh sits on a rock and wipes his double axe clean of Death's blood. He looks pained as he thinks back on how he didn't tell Chak what he knew. Salesh Draws a knife and cuts the words 'Varshikar' of his cloak.

Salesh thinks to him self in confusion.

Could it be that this death fellow can help me more than damien. He thought toward himself
Maybe he can... but he would never help me after I helped attack him.....

Damien will get me what I want.... but... if some other fellow got it for me....

Salesh hops off the rock and walks off, done thinking on the confusing and painfull subject.

The lizard suddenly woke in the beach near Vashikar. Chak leaned on his axe to stand up. There was blood over his armour and his axe. He looked around and couldn't figure out what was going on. Then he headed back to Vashikar.
In the city, he heard the citizens talking about that creature again. The creature with glowing red eyes and sharp teeth. "This rumour...", he thought shaking his head. "Then it happened again... It's getting worse...".
During the day, he remembered of his ex job partner Salesh and of what he had heard from Damien that Salesh wanted so much.

- Mad lizzzard... - he said to himself. - It ssseemsss Damien isss the center of it all... That liar... I jussst hope Sssalesssh find out hisss liesss before it'sss too late... - then he standed and started to look for Wiergraf. - I better do sssomething to help thisss mad lizzzard...

How had he made such a grave miscalculation? How had he fallen prey so easily?
The answer was simple, he had been wrong.
But now what?
They said he had done so many things... He hadn't even slain anyone yet. Yet somehow the island had turned against him so effectively.. His enemy had been right, he was respected, people respected him and believed him..
They had no idea..
Damien himself couldn't believe it.. And now what?
He had believe so many would help him beat Bjolmur, and yet the opposite had occured. They knew so little... They thought he brainwashed his bodyguard.. How was that?
Now what would he do?
The answer came quickly to him.
"Gain power."
And he knew how to do this.
He would go underground now... If anyone saw him, they would be killed... Oh yes, he would become what everyone thought he was already... He would become the monster they had spoken of.

Silently Damien Connelly hid under some rocks, waiting for his allies.

"Move once more and it will be an iceflame what I cast on you next.", Mary said.
"Do it", was Damiens answer, but Mary hesitated. It wasn't her way of doing, but her temper grew short.
"Do it", he said three times again and some seconds later he found himself at the cross. He even hadn't the chance to run.

Callith followed him to the cross, but despite Damiens wounds he ran away and escaped.
