Will characters ever be able to look different frm oneanothr

Post by Eldomar »

Like, when you put on certain clothes or armor will it show up, so all the humans and all the elves dont all look exactly the same.

Is that feasible?

As you know this would be a rediculous amount of work. #helmets x #bodyarmor x #robe x #weapons x #leggings x shoes x pants x shirts ECT x 16 = less than the insanely huge number of possibilities. There is not even a point in calculating it, some ludicris number is close enough.

Your character picture represents your race, gender, skin color and current armament (as soon as the pictures are ready)
I think dransik has something like that when you look at a person you can see what they are wearing. This way you can use the item graphics that are already in the client. The player avatar will be like an avatar.

Well, weren't they going to do so that you could see if the person had a sword, a bow or hands?

5 races x 2 genders

10 x 4 (swords, bow, axes, staffs) sets of weapons
40 x 4 different angles
160 new graphic renders.

I suppose we could cut it down to 120 by knocking out a group. Still alot though.

mmmm... so? Not so hard... If you got a 3d model of the char and weapon, it doesn't need much time. Maybe a days work... And once it is done you can feel proud and happy

The Staff has a reallife and gets no money for the game and they got more things to do so i think this is on the todo list, but comes later.

Yeah well, if you use that comment "They have better things to do" then nothing will be made, this game would be nowhere if it was like that. I'm grateful for the time they spend, but this is just as hard as everything else, but I think it would mean a grate deal to everyone. I've recently started to learn about programming and I've been moddelling for a month, so maybe I could help a bit. Maybe you could do one step at a time, Sword and hands, then staff and bow, it's easier to do it piece for piece...
 Well think about it.... It's no use to wipe away a request just cause it takes more time than the small things...

This request can easily be wiped away, since it has be asked for countless times, and its really low priority.

But if you think that this proposal contributes so much to the game that its worth the affort, go ahead and start doing the work.
The staff has really better things to do. No really.

Then they have to input the gfx, code them to animations, and finally make them appear when an item is selected in your hand.

mmmm... yeah sure I will give it a try, but I don't really know what the one sword, the one staff, the one bow, the one hands should be\look like... BTW I really just want to be able to play the game at the moment... :?

Ohh really that easy? Never thought of that. OK tomorrow the new and better 3D Client with force feedback and holographic interface will be released.

K, everybody cool down, I notice there is a lot of anger about doing work, but I still won't let this request go... Therefore I've recently loaned one book on programming in C++ and one on Moddelling with 3Ds Max. Now which one should I read first? :?
:P Thanks that everybody is so helpful and so supportive, but I think it will take atleast 3 months to read the two books!

I would get a 3d program first. They tend to be rather expensive for commercial versions. However if your a student you can go HERE . The main thing is you cannot use them for commercial purposes, Illarion is not commercial fyi.
Alias's maya, Discreet's 3ds max, Softimage xsi, Newtek lightwave, and Curious Labs Poser are all adequate.

I was just making a recommendation, you can use whichever program you like.

You really have no idea, right?

First things first:
The next time you start discussing illegal matters here you'll get a perma-bann from the board.

Furthermore: You have no idea of programing, right? Reading a book will maybe need 1 or 2 month, as you suggested, but afterwards you will not even be able to write some "Hello world"-program in C/C++. This will lead to nothing.

"Knowing" 3d max by book won't help much eighter.

It's not that I want you to lose your illusions, it's just to get your feet on the ground again.

Yeah, he deleted my last post because what I had written and was doing could be illegal... Though I never said I was doing something illegal... Anyways I can't be bothered to take this discussion any further... I'm learning modelling and C++, though it will take atleast six months untill I can use my skills, but I will still learn them... :P
