I've thought of that too, but on second thought: it only hinders the newbies, as usual.Caranthir the great wrote:Maybe a temporary (and very, very crude) fix could be a miniscule chance of a random worn item being destroyed when turning combat mode on (or off, whatever) ?

Hmm on the char wipe note, I geuss I can live with restatting (as long as certain systems stay near the same), as long as I don't have to go through the wekks to reaquire a character
On the other note; I know the hp thing would not be a small fix, but it would be the most realistic and playerfriendly. The smaller chance of destroying soemthign would be a good thing to do for now. And as (I think) was said, monster killing is more profitable right now, and this game is supposed to be more towards a life, so crafts should be more profitable. And I don't see why items with diff hp wouldn't be stackable as long as the name was the same.

Yes i have done that, I am nearly a master lumberjack (one shade below my shade of red for langauge, and me is of the speaking the rwal good human langauge am now
), and I sometimes have to carry 3 axes just to get a load of logs to sell, or craft.
Also I agree I don't want a char-wipe, they shoudl find some way to convert the characters over

Restarting skill, and the economy which is about as real as me buying an ounce of gold for a penny. Very old characters before the 10x system have mastered like every skill utterly killing the economy and making gold and the finest goods cheap. Also the kill you with kindness attitute of alot of players make for everyone knowing everything, which in the new client hopefully is all changed so information will be worth something. Skills have to be reset for a fair playing field, and the economy. I hope they implement a new currency system with the various precious metals too. Beleive me, there are people with A-L-O-T to loose.
If you have accually spent enough time in Illarion in less than 2 months to reach grandmastery of any skill...wow. Also keep in mind everything is privately owned and they reserve all rights, but they respect player's opinions too. There is no way to reset the long time messed up economy of Illarion without a char wipe. This would not be anytime soon fyi. I have an almost 2 year old character with a rediculous amount of skill, and much money. I have other characters with fair amounts of skill too, I have very much to loose in a char wipe, but it is for the developement and bettering of the game. I don't think you should be working your ass off for any game, how fun is that? If it was fun, it wouldn't be work, and games are there to have fun.falco1029 wrote:Then it should be reset based on people before the 10x system, or something fairer, so people who have been working their asses off to make a living and finally have one wont have to start over.

One good thing will coem with the charwipe that IU can see, renovation, the charwipe signifies the new engine and then more things will be put into the game, which is good. I am not a master at anytthing, I'm good enough to barely survive in the economy right now. I suppose a full charwipe might be the only way, but people with old characters should at least get SOMETHING, like maybe minimal amounts of the skills they had?

I think a wipe of chars to begin a "new world" would destroy everything. Illarion lives from his past and the ingame history.
To delete the biggest part of the skills and items would be enough. But only if we really need a wipe (by technical problems).
But within few months there would be the same situation. Those who have more time, they get their advantages again and will be "better" (skills) or "richer" than the other and younger ones.
Maybe, to get a better economic situation (until the market is filled again - only for a short time? It makes sense?), which depends on the currently system (not on the x-thousends of items of old chars), it would be enough to delete all items, which are in depots.
There could be set a date (by a newsletter) and the player get their chance to keep their "important" items. All items which are not carried by chars become deleted...
An other idea: A item-wipe could also deletes all items except one of each sort within the depot of a char. Thus there will be saved a certain low level.

I get your point lennier, but Martin told me the best items will take a long time to get, they are commonplace now. Noone is buying the lesser than the best items now, which is a big problem. I think shi'voc or someone told me there is a limit to how many items can be used with this client for some weird reason, so vast amounts of items are not possible right now.

Personally, it is my belief, and I have said the same to Martin one or more times, that everything should be whiped--items, skills, gold, history, and perhaps even a new map.
So many changes have been made through the last few years and as a result of those changes the economy cannot be fixed, nor can the balance of power.
Yes; I believe that a character who has been around for a long time should be more powerful than a new one, but with the skill system being slowed down so much since the early days, it's hard to even build a character to a point where they seem even useful to the age old gods of Illarion, let alone the same sort of being.
The same goes for the economy. We have the old gods with chests of gold and rare items that were common long ago. Do you know how many of those books that the mummies dropped I had in my depot in those days? Dozens! It's a good thing that I finally got rid of them shortly before they became valuable or else I'd have to come up with an unusual story of how Moskher got rich over night. Even trying to rectify that situation or find some sort of balance aside from the whipe makes everything seem contrived.
The map itself provides some unusual conundrums. It's too small to wander about to find new things. The different tiles cover too small of areas to provide difference from place to place (for example, the desert is too small to provide for a desert city or even an oasis to stop at and meet with people). When there's talk about expanding the map people complain that it's hard enough to find other players as it is. I don't see that as an issue, since people also complain that players will only go where there is a depot. Provide a wilderness area and only the brave will travel it.
Moreover, a full whipe provides an opportunity to the GMs and players alike to frame Illarion more perfectly. Starting out from scratch we can give Illarion tone, history, and atmosphere more effectively. We could start out the game as pioneers drawn to a distant island for it's rich resources, rather than wanderers at random who wander the roads, homeless, for no apparent reason. That, alone, even forgetting my other arguments for a full whipe, makes the idea intriguing to me.
