something positive
very well...
after all insultings and destructive criticism, here is something I want to say:
1. I had a GREAT day ingame! I was ingame for hours, even I wasn't ingame the last days 'cause I thought I lost fun.
2. I want to thank that GM (whoever it was) that has made this little quest with the fish. It was so amusing!
3. Yesterday I saw the best orc that I have ever met ingame! I wonder if it was a newbie. He was great played! I was so amazed!
4. The newbies currently are awesome! There are very good RPer under them!
5. Thanks to all the guys who are motivating the players to stay! or who are trying to get them back!
6. Thanks again to the GMs who are spending their freetime to realize this game.!
I still love this game, even there are ups and downs!
You all should go more ingame, instead of spending your time in the forum. You are missing the greatest things!

PS: bin Alaine

Crap I can't help it. I have to add my positive crap even though it does'nt last all the time
Saturday night I basically crushed my ankle while hanging out with friends. All day today has been spent with my foot up and playing Illarion as I let the meds numb me. It has been a good day of rest for me and some freaking good RP. B.T.W. Just something for you all to look foreward to. I plan on bringing back something that happened long ago. Will be lots of fun for all to have
See you all in the virtual world. Where we can forget our problems and Let's love us all!

This thread is really funny. I hate to burst anybody's bubble of joy.
"Illarion loves you."
So pathetic.
Why is the forum filled with two million threads that are filled with flaming?
I thought you people wanted new players.
Anyhow, keep up the good work then, as it appears there are so many new good players, and a warm welcome to all the Newbies.

Yeah it was funny ,but then someone put me up and dropped me in the jail
.
Something is really funny it seems that people now have prove that Ilaarion makes fun,it ever made it ever will be make fun, maybe there where so many online because its sunday or maybe they just wanted to say "Yes here i'm and I'm playing this game now no matter what other people think".
Thank to all and maybe all the leavers should give Illarion another try it isn't so bad .Like everything and everywhere you just need some people for it.

Eric,
If you must know, there is a reason behind this thread and I seriously disagree with you bursting it as such. The fact that Nartak PO Shukk cannot leave gracefully but would rather act as though everything about the game is negative is just simply frustration targeted at the wrong sources.
Jen PO Caitlin was feeling down and thinking about leaving Illarion, and she perhaps decided that maybe she was only looking at the negatives and asked me to list things that I thought were positive for the game as it stands.
There are a number of things I mentioned, but they relied solely on the shoulders of the players, especially ones playing new characters and certain newbies. I felt that this is important, because if someone is to leave or join Illarion, it shouldn't be because we don't have ships in-game or because Martin didn't bake you a pie, it should be because of the players!
A number of the things I mentioned:
Konstantin's orc. Yes, I've argued with Konstantin about his rp in the past, but that will not keep me from complimenting him when he does a good job. The orc character was quite intriguing and he deserves praise for making a good night for me in Illarion.
I saw a newbie that was introduced to the game by a friend last night. To get the newbie used to the game and help him find his place, his friend created a difficult and perhaps unsolveable quest for him. This made it so that I was suprised when I realized that he was a newbie, because he already had a villain, a certain amount of contacts, and a detailed story. Marvelous idea, I say, to the player that came up with this.
I mentioned a certain bizarre storyline that has built up between nearly a dozen characters in the story, adding complexity upon complexity, that has had no active OOC talk or GM intervention to thank for it; it merely has spawned itself from the rp of several players. Even better, I mentioned the fact that even as long-lasting in-character friendships end with this storyline, long-lasting out-of-character friendships between the players remain stable.
I mentioned how wonderful some of the newbies and new characters of experienced players have been lately. Every day I seem to run into someone new and interesting, and every time I wish that I had thought their character up myself.
I believe there are even more things that I mentioned, but you get the point. These are good things, even in bad times. For you to try to drag down the positivity of this thread doesn't look good in my eyes. It makes it sound that it is not so much your troubles with Illarion, but rather your troubles getting players in Ultima Online.

Just a second.
I'm technically still playing Illarion.
What exactly does that tell you?
I'm not trying to drag people to UO.
You know how many players here simply don't like UO?
My board identity is leaving, that's all.
I'm sorry, but I have trouble co-existing with people who play false games. So you don't like what I write. Fine. But what I said, is just something from another point of view.

Edit: When I want an effect like another "Illarion Loves You"-Thread, just after about 4 people bashed the hell out of me on the same forums, Mitch, I think I'll just try to find and watch a Care Bears episode. The latter is probably more enjoyable, although I have strong doubts about it.
Still what I wrote was not sarcastic, not cynical, no, I was being completely serious:
A warm welcome to all the new players.
Illarion is fun.
Just don't hesitate to criticise things, there's alot that needs to improve, and it will only work over time. Don't forget this game is still in Alpha phase, that makes us all Alpha Testers.

I understand all that, Eric. We've talked about such things, and it's important that you know that I am not trying to flame you. It is merely that there are plenty of other places on the General Board to be negative.
Jen was looking for the other side's opinion, when the Ultima Online Exodusees came by and attempted to tank it by saying that we're out hunting for newbies and that there isn't anything at all good in Illarion. Does this look like honest debate? Friendly discussion?
No. It doesn't. Let's stay on topic and allow those that are still infatuated with Illarion speak. You can say that we're wrong, but use an argument, not a misunderstanding of a previous statement followed by, "so pathetic!"
And this wasn't an "Illarion loves the little newbie children," chat, either. I mentioned both new characters and newbie characters in my discussion with Jen. I only said that there are interesting characters popping up out of nowhere, and in most cases I don't know if they're newer characters of experienced players or newbie characters.
Tell me, Sian, did I treat you any different when you were a newbie? Did Jen? Who are you arguing about? I don't think it's anyone who posted here.

Mitch, what are you talking about?
I'm still treated like a newbie here*.
Edit:
* By some.
To clarify I'm not flaming anybody, my point is that I'd like to read what was good about the role-play. I mean, it's good you have had fun and experienced good role-play.
But I'd appreciate if you described a bit of it. For example for those people who some of you may think who are bad role-players in your eyes, or are perhaps still challenged with role-playing altogether?
I'm sure it would be more helpful than just... "Whee, it was fun!"
I think you should know by now what I'm trying to say. I mean, it's nice that a bunch of you get together in groups and talk about stuff in IRCs or over InstantMessengers, but it would be nice if we could lead some discussions of these sorts on these boards as well.

While many argue that Illarion is dis-improving at a phenomenal rate, I beg to differ. The past year has seen the arrival of some of the best new roleplayers that I've seen in a long time.
These new roleplayers have forced us to re-evaluate some of the key aspects of Illarion. Similarily, they've forced us to face up and discuss certain taboo subjects, such as powergaming, GMs and so forth.
However, instead of embracing these newbies as the next generation of Illarionites, we've shunned them. Moirear Sian has been a force to be reckoned with on the boards in his short time with us. He's been a blessing in a highly sarcastic disguise. He has attempted to (and succeeded in some cases) beat way the attitudes of jaded players and destroy some of the prevailing elitist attitudes.
He's made me, for one-a player from the Dyluck era- change my attitude towards the game and new players, after more than two years and 1500 posts. I guarantee that he's been a shaping influence to more than just me.
Moskher, has been a huge influence on my roleplay and the roleplay of others. He has made me seriously realise that a character could be just that-a character with no amazing powers or histories. The amazing things is, is that such characters are still fascinating and complex.
There are many more new players who have arrived in the past year-players I would consider better than most "veterans" (including myself):
Aryllis, Quinasa and so forth.
To the people who either condemn Illarion or praise it blindly.
Extremes will get us nowhere.
We must find a compromise where both sides listen to each other without erupting into flaming.
At the star of the summer, I probably would bave appreciated a flame war as much as the next idiot. Now, however, because I've grown a brain, I'm willing to listen, learn and compromise for the sake of Illarion.

I love you, and your RP. ::blushing:: And I agree with the compromising, and all the talk about Sian. He is a great player like many of the newcomers and they all force me to look at the game in a whole new way. I have three chars, Quin being my favourite, one reason being that she isn't really anything special. She's a girl that came to the island and foudn a wonderful intriguing world that she doesn't always fit into but gives her a story none-the-less. And that turns her into something special.
This game is like an on-stage-production. Just because you don't have a lot of lines or too much to say, because you don't have a huge background or a list of misfortunes does not make you unimportant. Everyone is important. And one of the reasons I love Illarion so much is that it continues to grow every day.

That means a lot to me, Brendan, because you are a player that has influenced my rp more than possibley any other, and considering how rare it is that we get to rp together, that is quite an accomplishment.Brendan Mason wrote:

I have even been tempted to make and sell WWBD? (What Would Brendan Do?) bracelets for the players of Illarion.
Yes. I suppose you are right. Why is it always that we get so confused about what eachother are saying on these boards, but an AIM conversation later we make sense to eachother?Moirear Sian wrote: To clarify I'm not flaming anybody, my point is that I'd like to read what was good about the role-play. Frankly, I don't feel I can comply to the challenge, though. I kept some of the points vague because I believe there are some things that should be kept off the boards and in private between two or a few players, and that includes the specifics on some of the above. Some things are better as suprises.
Also, this thread is more for experienced players that are tempted to leave than newbies or problem players. It is to tell them what to look for while in-game, and see if they agree that those positive things exist and how that effects their feelings about Illarion.
Instead, I will walk away from the challenge and talk about something else that the two of us have talked about in private that I feel is more help to newbies or trouble players:
It is my belief that good rp or bad rp is a choice, and I know that one or another time I've made choices either way. I can say that I'm not innocent of bad rp, powergaming, or any number of the things that now make me angry when I see them in Illarion.
That being said, the only way to beat bad rp is through logic and example. Bans are not a method of beating bad rp, they're a method of retreating from it. Neither is anger or frustration a way to beat rp for the very same reason.
It is imperative, and I know that I am not the only one who believes such a thing, that we provide new players and problem players with a guide to what is good rp. The problem, then, is defining what is good and bad rp. The only way that I can think of this being possible is through consensus.
After such a thing is made, it is even more important that we, experienced players, live up to that guide, afterall, it will be our consensus that has created it.
Anyways, before I hijack this thread even further, I think everyone reading this should start thinking about what they believe to be good rp and bad rp. We'll talk about this another time and in another thread.
