Purple-pink items?! - AM I CURSED?

Post by Erdrick »

Recently most items have a pink glow about them, and Silentgun tells me his glows blue. (Twists the problem thats been stated before...)
I know martin or some gfx artist said it's the background showing up, but it did this suddenly. I've never had problems with Illarion like this, and I've been playing for almost 2 years now.
Can someone give me an explanation on why this is occuring?

Erdrick

P.S. It's my birthday monday July 1st! So, if any of you... *ahem* rich people like myself want to share their wealth to a friend getting older, feel free to hand me large, fine-crafted silver ingots, with my name engraved on them in mythril letters, and oh yes, a new suit of armor, and a stallion, and.... and....
Hehe =) just kidding, at least wish me good fortune. Hehehe...

If you changed anything about your system configuration it could cause this.  Perhaps a new video card or something...  I can't see it occuring spontaneously.

we had this discussion several times.
may i ask you which graphics adapter you are using, which system you are running and what graphics-driver you have installed?

DirectX 8.1 upgrade didn't work.
@Martin: My computer is the same. Any suggestions on what causes this, so I can just test things out?
Thanks.

Hmm, I think you need to install DirextX 8 first ;)
But I think martin meant, that you should tell what your system is.

I had DirectX 8, and I upgraded it to 8.1, and... It didn't work. =)
I'm not as dumb as I look.
I'm using nVidia Gforce 1 or 2, and I'm using the same system and everything else as before.

Since you haven't told your system to martin, he can't help you.

I really don't think it makes a difference. The problem lies not there, and I'm not getting a new system.
I think it may be some sort of configuration with my graphics driver.
I have WindowsME.

winME isn't a very good OS, however, that has nothing to do with your problem of pink borders. (instead of winME, try to get a copy of win2000 or winXP, which are much more stable!).

the pink borders are caused be eighter the graphics-driver or the graphics adapter. directX shouldn't have to do something with it. (the reaosn is the following: pink=transparent; dX offers a function to shrink graphics to a certain size and to have this transparent color. when shrinking a bitmap, it should do the following:
1) make pink transparent
2) shrink (with anti-aliasing);

however, some drivers mix up this sequence and do the following:
1) shrink (antialiasing against pink...)
2) define pink=transparent
and thats how the borders come in. however, the first version is the correct one, drivers SHOULD work like this, but some don't do as they should...)

try installing different drivers.

I guess you have already mentioned the problem: You have installed new drivers for your graphics adapter.
