GENERIC????? - thats what i get when starting

when i start (ihave created a character successfully) i get a black screen with a popup with word generic in it and only an ok for choice when i click ok the game dies before it leaves black screen.

I suppose you have either not installed DirectX 8.0,
use an old Windows version (95 or earlier with no installed winsocks2-library)
or your graphics adapter / monitor doesn't support 1024*768 pixels with 16 Bit Color (64K)

i have sorta the same problem i dont think i have directx8 but i dont know how to get it, and if my pc is win98 do u think the directx8 thing is the only problem?
anyway heres the error message i get

error starting program the illarion.exe file is linked to missing export draw.dll:directdrawcreateex then i click ok then it says a device attached to the system is not functioning properly

Same problem.
I ve created a char, I want to connect, BANG! Generic Error.
Got a laptop, windows 98, just installed directX8.1, but that doesnt help.
