A new character of mine has been seeking a magic teacher for quite some time now. And, of course, every time he gets remotely close to having one, the teacher only offers overly cryptic messages or turns him down altogether. Either there's nobody around the island that knows the teaching process, or magical instruction is extremely limited to the point where nobody will learn from that particular person(s) anyway.
This character is supposed to have a background with magic in it. How the heck can I make him learn to use it decently (so nobody takes him for a village idiot), let alone find somebody to teach him? I'll probably be able to play Illarion (sparingly) for about a year more, then I'll be finished when school finishes; meaning, I probably can't play his role fully because he'll still be on the look out for teachers for who knows how long.
So I'm just saying, is there a way to 'water' down the difficulty of learning the process for teaching runes, so newbie mages don't have to sit around for months of nothingness?

• If the char goes around begging in the open public to be taught, he/she will be taught
• If the char is decent, cryptic, and mysterious about wanting to be taught, he/she gets shunned
You're not alone if you find what I wrote there absolutely backwards.
But I've seen it IG.
Just thought I'd share it.
And see if other people think it's a bit strange.
I don't have much to say on this, as I don't play any mages. At least not yet. Yet I'm taken to believe the actual "technical" process IG is rather simple. However, I believe the problem is truly finding a teacher who will take the student in. Because magic is a well-guarded secret.
Magi don't share their power with everybody...
