...I have too much time on my hands... ... anyway, here is something too look at which gives information on the common history of necromancers and their part in fiction.

I like Diablo's definition for Necromancer.

Something along these lines:

Every living thing possesses an energy of life, an essence, a soul. This essence is freed upon the act of death. A necromancer is someone who can feel, control, accumulate, and govern these energies which are freed from the dead. One of the powers would be putting those life essences back into their dead bodies, gaining control over the raised undead.
A necromancer can also drain life power from the living creatures, insuring their faster decay and loss of energy.

But to raise the dead, I'll need some rubber bands, a toothpick, and at least half a bottle of glue. I can make it happen.

But seriously, it's an interesting occupation to get into, provided you can get at least a little bit of GM help.
