Lose the Names - every time I log out i lose all names

Post by Fate »

I have got a big problem. When I learn new names and log out next time I see the numbers again and everybody is unknown again.

I have got win2k, illarion is installed under c:\illarion

I see the names.dat file in the char-folder.

in the names file all names are in (I opened with wordpad)

Is there any known possibility?

At the moment i wrote all names with number on a sheet of paper, but there are pretty much of them......

It doesn't seem as bad if you have watched them for around five minutes without them going out of your sight if you do often times you will remember their names its a memory system just like mine in RL *grins*.

I"m having the same problem, and yes the folder with the .dat files exist.  If you were to load it up in notepad, it shows the naems, but when you encounter the people, they don't display.  Also, Bror, have you got a chance to look at the water bucket bug I notified you of?

So dear Captain if you read my post again, you will find all you requested ;o)

@Bror: I do have the names.dat file in the characters subfolder.
What I do not understand is, the map is displayed perfect, which means all land I have allready walked is shown.
I have tried it from n NTSF and an FAT32 partition..... everything is running fine...
only that f..... names arent displayed ;o(

Maybe I have to change something with the names.dat file?

I do have an idea: Bror can u send me an names.dat file, like it should be?

I will copy it into my directory...then we will see if mine is wrong or there is a prob with my system.

can there be a problem with some signs? because whenn i open some are displayed as squares.

here is my e-mail just in case: fate@lords-of-highland.com

Just delete your names.dat file. Back it up somewhere else. you now need to be re-introuce by the others, the program will write its own names.dat.
If you modify it or sometimes when you get thrown out without using esc, it is damaged.

I have that problem too:(
When i log out and then come in again, i have forgotten all the names i knew.
The only difference between me and fate is that i don't even have the players numbers to refer to.
My names.dat contains all the names of the people i know, but not their numbers :(
I have a win 2000 advanced server os...
I have Illarion on a win 98se too.
Should i try to copy the names.dat file from my win 98 to win 2000 pc that doesn't work?
I read lots of messages on this board but i'm still not sure what to do...

Thanks in advance for your help....
And to those who know me i ask to have patience if i come in and don't recognise them ...
Bye
Arja

Hallo

can you tell something about your filesystems you have on your pc ? (i think only a few w2k users have the problem with the names)
if you have the name loss-problem take a look at your filesystems
normally w2k uses NTFS but if you have w9x  on your pc too have fatxx partitions too

right click at drive c or d or .... and click then at properties (do this with each partition)
now you can see what kind of filesystem(s) you have on your pc

Hello,

all drives are NTFS.

i tried to install the game another time.. no change.

if i open the file names with my editor i can see all names. but i think the program can´t only
get the names if i will go online.

i hope we will find a solution.

greetings

i also use win 2000 prof, but i have no problems with the names and map files... but...

maybe some programs in the background check the files or a antivirus program opens the files and then they are changed or something, but this are only speculations...

I'll search for the problem when the new version comes out, so there is no need to add to this thread the whole time.

Illarion ist in C++ programmiert.

Mfg.
