"Ingame events"
I want to ask the community of Illarion why this possibilty to announce ingame events is rarely used. To summarize the content, we have:
1 general posting
2 rumours (wrong here)
1 SPAM post ("But I like the pizza")
10 posts concerning ingame events like quests
in a total of 69 days, so around one ingame event announced each week. I´m sure there are/were lots of events going on worth the attention of other players.
----------------------------------------
Ich würde gerne die Illacommunity fragen, warum diese Möglichkeit Ereignisse anzukündigen so selten genutzt wird. Um den Inhalt des threats zusammenzufassen, wir haben
1 einleitendes posting
2 Gerüchte (hier fehl am Platz)
1 SPAM post ("But I like the pizza")
10 posts über Ereignisse wir Questen
in 69 Tagen, also rund 1 Ereigniss pro Woche. Ich bin mir sicher, dass es noch viele weitere Ereignisse gibt/gab, die die Aufmerksamkeit anderer Spieler verdient hätten.

Re: "Ingame events"
For one- I don't think anybody would like to wade through three hundred event messages (especially not ones like the "Pizza"-input), just to pick out one they find interesting. Of course, that would be a nice thing. But I think a statistic of one event announced per week is not bad - as Damien said up there, there is a surprise effect that goes along with the unannounced events.Belegi wrote:I want to ask the community of Illarion why this possibilty to announce ingame events is rarely used.
I'll give you a recent example: almost every day for the past weeks there have been attacks on the town by monsters. If these attacks were always announced, they'd probably take away from the thrill of a horde of monsters suddenly stampeding through the gates, and the server would be swarmed by munchkin-fighter-characters.
No thanks.
Following this example, if you'd have every player- and GM-initiated event announced before it happens, you'd always have munchkins of whatever tier swarming about, and eagerly awaiting the right moment to dash into action. The unannounced events on the other hand, bring some randomness into everything. They make the characters that are already there more dependant on eachother. This is not just valid for events that focus on massive fighting.
Other people might disagree with me here, but the unannounced events greatly enhance the gameplay, because they tend to interrupt things and bring along some great surprise effects.
I totally understand your point and agree, but nevertheless I still think that some events should be announced. Events that are ment as surprises like attacks is not what I have in mind but weddings, festivals, guild meetings and such. Hell, maybe even an interesting onionball match.
Sure, there is the risk that people only get online when something is announced, but I think a good mixture of unannounced (suprise, merely GM driven events) and announced (planned, merely player driven events) might improve gameplay and raise the number of players online.
What kind of events I have in mind to be announced you can understand when referring to this page: http://www.herzlande.de/. No "At 22:00 CET there will be a bunch-o-trolls attacking the city" but meetings, festivals, expeditions and such.
Besides, some quests that don´t deal with monsters and magical mumbujumbu require some attention, it is hard to find 3 hero characters when there are only 5 online and of those 5 are 4 nice little hobbits...
