I have heard lots of people complaining that they cannot do a spell because of their intelligence..
I propose that there should be some way of raising this in-game,
such as reading in the library or working out puzzles.
if you want to do all the spells yes,..... if your a druid, then no.
these are "ancient languages" we are talking about. Not everyone "characters in the game" with enough intel will ever be able to say them.
to make it fair then druids also need inteligence to comprehend spells, and raising it ingame is good, and disregard mr.goo goo's posts he just likes to insult anything he doesnt like.
if you could raise inteligence in game then no-one would nead to put points to ineligence when they first make their character so they would have an extra 17 or so points to put on other things, like strength for example which would allow people to make a mage character into a great fighter. I think the down side of being a good mage is having to put a lot of your points into inteligence and if you could raise it in game that would take away the bad part of being a mage.
This all was discussed at the mainboard. This post is senseless, since it is impossible to gain intelligence, a stupid person will maybe take longer to learn anything, or he is unable. an intelligent person is learning faster.
How about doing away with the allot starting atribute points system altogether. Would it be better to start with a basic character who then earns points by doing. You want inteligence? then read. you want strength? then fight. That sort of thing. Obviously it needs padding out a bit but what do you think in principal.
ah, but then that would make is so experienced players would pretty much always be ahead ect.
right now everyone has natural, unchangable by normal means- status.
a newbie can put up a his dukes with a older player and still win perhaps. (better chance than newbie = strength 2 elder player = strength 18.)
weapons add to the status
equip a shield, like almost something like +5 defence or so.
sword +2 attack ect.
as for gaining intel, ive heard topas rings does that. (helps intel) not sure though. but for those who wants to do a better spell, perhaps there is a item that will enable you to cast it,
ex. ThunderRing can allow you to do lightling spell if you are not able to understand that spell before you put it on( of course the mana cost will be slightly greater to cast it then normal). If you already can do that spell then the ring will have no effect.

"but the mr.goo goo messenger, make a post ABOUT me if you wish, and I will not read it. Post on my posts and I will"
 how long that lasted. No one admits mistakes of themselves like you Manneligoogoo
yes, got lost again eh? this post got your name written all over it am i right?
Little Manneligoogoo
you babble on endlessly with your "useless chatterings" ....or is the diaper that you put on your head preventing oxygen from going in your brain?
My "babbling along, answered his questioin on importance of intel, gave my opinion on your pitiful counter, and gave my point of view to ellarion.
You? hum..... blah blah druid.... <---- answers his question of intel.
blah blah blah goo goo disregard<------ yep, he asked that too;)
and
mr. go go, babble, me enjoy diaper rash<--- answers what question/post?
telling others to disregard my post is really effective when you cant do it yourself.
you just babbling, whinning, and useless chattering along to anyone or thing you dont like, no problem, that solves problems in life, and it will give you a ticket to jump from that glued chair your in located in first grade L-D, to ..... 1 1/2 grade???

@Mannelig:
I think that you misunderstand the use for these boards. They aren't just for you. They are for discussion. Discussion = talking. And to you, making two posts is babbling. You're telling Chyan Guo that he makes alot of posts, well let me think back to all the posts that you, sean-san and Lloyd have made.... You have probably started three times as many useless topics as the total number of posts that he has made. There was a saying relating to this....
Don't throw stones in a glass house
Remember that before you start to open your mouth and start to "babble" next time.
I think its getting stupid now, all the posts that i have read that one of you has replied to it went compleatly off the topic and into a silly argument. But mabey that isn't your fault, you know what they say..
I was on topic, I think that the magic system should be put for druids as well.
after that it was constant mr. goo messenger did not get it.
I said make a post about me I ment a thread like
"Why I hate mannelig" or something and I wont read it, talking about me under my nose and I will read it.
1. where did i say i hated you? insults too?
2. talking behind your nose, i might as well write in black.... public forum.....how do i write behind your back?
3. when did i write behind your back?
note, there is a difference between insults and you being annoyed.
i never insulted you, however, you have a very GOO GOO time dealing with negative comments to your post.
PS he asked why people complain about not able to doing SPELLS because of INTEL and is it important, NOTHING ABOUT DRUIDS!

are you saying that
"mr. goo goo
you babble on endlessly? or do you enjoy being as annoying as an infant with a diaper rash?"
and
"I am asking bror to delete your board account. "
are on topic? and if he did make a thread about why he hates you, you would complain even more. also i think you nead your eyes testing, he name is Chyan GUO Messenger, not Mr Goo Goo. Or are you doing that so he will start (and Win) an argument with you again?
Any way about the topic, i think that starting with a basic character and shaping his/her skills is a great idea, but there should be a limit to how much for can train your strength, like if your a halfling, your training limit would be lower than if you were a dwarf so that there wouldent be any super strong halflings running around. but this way there would be a lot more people complaining about powergaming.
i never said anything about old players attacking new players.
i requested him to lower his agressiveness, and made statements from my opinion.
then i stated my opinion on being calmer and gave examples, even if it didnt sound friendly or pretty.
Nobody asked me what?
You havent grasped the idea of the boreds yet have you Mannelig, when you make a proposal or post an idea, you dont ask individuals to say what they think, any one who wants to can post. Oh and i wanted to ask you, what are the other languages you speek? you said english was your third language right?
Im sick to death of mannelig an chyan goo messenger wasting space on other peoples post and things bickering with each other do it privately or something or better still both of u grow up an stop bein so bloody petty.AN DONT START MOANING THAT I SPELT YOUR NAMES WRONG OR ANYTHING I DONT CARE JUST STOP IT!!!!!
BE QUIET!!!
And for god sakes mannelig, spell your signature right!
Now about the topic that was supposed to be discussed here. I don't think that a way of raising intelligence is quite necessary yet, since the magic system is not permanent and will be replaced by a better one. In the next system, these people may be able to cast the spells they want back anyway, so there is no need to introduce this now.
