Dispel Magic - A new counter-offensive spell

Post by Euler »

Many times I have graced the city paths to find them littered with blue, green and red flames from assailants that have long gone missing.  While the ability to created chaos and frustrations grows with each cast of the assailants’ spells, there exists no counter measure for other players - besides waiting for these spells to naturally dissipate.  It would be nice to see a spell that would allow you to dispel another’s magic.

The spell could have many different uses: first, you could simply extinguish another's spell.  Second, you could prevent a mage from caster for a period of time (similar to the non-movement spell).  Last, it could be used to dispel magic barriers erected in Illarion (replacing some of those meddlesome statues that are used now).

This are just some quick thoughts I've had, let me hear your comments.

PS.  I realize the game is still in development but I am curious if there are any plans to expand past the current Pangia?

I agree. The idea sounds very useful. But if someone was using them around themselfs, say as a protective barrier, while monsters were attacking them, then some jerk could come up and dispell the "barrier", allowing the monsters to attack the possibly weak, unarmored person.

I like that idea, indeed. We have about 15 spells, but only three of them are constructive. All the others are used for fighting, so mages seem to be "programmed" as mystical warriors. I feel it would make much sense  if there would be much more spells you would be able to play with beside fighting.

Rather than start a new thread I'll just add on to this one when I think of things to suggest...

It would be nice to have more items used for simple RPing purpose.  The majority of the items that can be made are weapons or armor but very little exsists in just a context of living.  I have a personality that enjoys a nice pipe and story but alas there are no pipes to smoke and no pipe leaf to pack them.

Other things that might be nice to make are tent stakes and tent poles from wood or iron and from leather or cloth a tent cover or tarp so players can errect a tent.  It would hold a couple of people and no one could see who is inside the tent unless the are standing in front of the door.  It would need to be large enough to hold a fire and 2-3 people.

Thats all for now,
Euler

Yes i'm in agreement with Euler, It would be nice if more day-to-day items were put in in the next client..and i believe 'pipe leaves' are called tobacco or marijuana

Seth,

We might want to avoid the name marijuana because of the obvious real world debate that occur by having something named that in game.  I choose the name pipe leaf simply because it would be an obvious alternative name to real world counterparts.  Not to mention I don't think the in-game tabbaco needs to cause any change in perception - likes some leaves do.

OK, yet another idea ... wonder if Admins read these ... I would like to see spiders drop spider sacks that can be turned into silk for tayloring.  It would be nice to make capes for mages and perhaps garmets for the merchant classes that are a little fancier. :)

Also, I have started playing a halfling in game and for RPing purposes have choosen not to use the heavy class of weapons and armor because the halfling is so much smaller.   While I can manage well enough using only the chain shirt and a light shield but the dagger becomes my perfered weapon because a traditional sword that a grown man can weild is much to large for a halfling.  So here's my idea/suggestion, make a stronger dagger - like a fire dagger, jeweled dagger or perhaps an ice dagger that could bring the dagger class of weapons up a notch.  Or allow druids to create a true posion potion that can be applied to weapons to be improved.  This potion could come in the form of acid that allows for acid burnt blades that are extremely sharp... I think you get the picture.

The dispel-flames thing has been discussed before, once in a post by me, and once in a post by Roke... probably several other times too.

I agree on the rp-items though. I've thought it would be nice to have some form of lots (dice) or maybe just a coin for flipping. Using it would create a line of text like: "Hyssena tosses a coin into the air, it lands with the _____ side facing up." ____ would be replaced with front or back. Dice would work the same way. That way people could gamble. Fun!

Another just for fun item might be a wedding dress... another item for master tailors. This would work nicely with the silk idea too. hehe

Another item I'd like tailors to be able to make is a whip... maybe it wouldn't do much damage, but I know I'd use it, whips are such nifty weapons. :)

Let's see... what else... maybe fishermen could catch oysters and obtain pearls for rings? (they would match the wedding dress... hehe)

I suppose one of the main reasons these don't exist is that there aren't graphics for them. It's still fun to think about them though.

But Hyssena, People are able to gamble.

You need three shields, and a pott ash.
The first player bets some money (recived back as twice is he/she wins).
The second player switches the positions of the shields and pott ash covering it under one of those shields.
If the first player succesfully guesses under which shield the pott ash is by turning the shield over, he/she wins.
If she/he guesses wrong, then he/she loses the money.

Thanks to Badmosche who introduced me with this game.
Only downside is that if players take too long time in guessing, the refresh will make the shileds and pott ash disappear.

Ah, that's a neat idea Cara... I tried to think of some way of doing that.

I still don't quite see how you could move it without the person easily seeing the location of the ash though. Maybe I'll get you to show me some time. hehe

I bet it would work well with boxes or bags...

Ahh, well.. that is a problem.
But the idea of the game I just presented to you was not mine, you should thank badmosche.

Thought I have planned for another version of the game played with chests.
But that is unfinished for now.
The basic idea is the same, other bets money, and tries to guess in which chest the "item" is.
The player who doesnt bet, aka "house" steps one tile away from the chests after he/she has mixed them, so he/she cannot alter the results by cheat.
If the person guesses wrong, he should have given a possibility to inspect the other chests to see if the item was really in the game.
