Me thinks that there should be a way

Me thinks that their should be a way to get an item that permenantly raises stats without having to equip an item, but me also thinks it should be either really expensive such as 100 silver per stat potion or it be a rare item given from an attack or so. Mabey even every 400 demons killed u get one. Dunno just an idea :).

Well, this is an interesting idea. Of course, as it stands we have people with "maxed" (they assume) skills who want new monsters because the old ones aren't challenging enough (see Ralgar's post 'i would like to see'). How long would it be before people get enough of these potions to "max" their attributes and start complaining?

Don't get me wrong, it's a neat idea Blade, I just don't know how practical it would be. Though, now that I think about it... If they were to do something along the lines of my 'Cave of Forgetfulness' idea (see Ralgar's post again) and make this 'potion' a rare drop from that monster, it might be worth it (by this I mean people will have to lose a lot of skill to gain a little bit of an attribute.)

(edited for typographical errors... I have to give Gurok's helper monkey back, useless little thing...)

Or your stats would just raise after doing "A LOT" of certain kind of work.
For example raising 1 strength point for every 20 000 - 30 000 mined ores.
Or something like that.

Of course the higher your stat is, the more it would require to raise it.

Hmm. Its a good idea, Caranthir. But won't it support powergamer? There would be a big crowd of people who only want to raise their skills and so they mine many hours without any RP ;)

Juliana, that's what they do now!
There are many people who only work and don't rp!
I think these people won't be there when the e-mailapplication is there!

My roleplay is to become a strong warrior. I already maxed my warrior skills, but every once in a while i would like something more, perhaps with essence or life which are half for me. Of course i do more roleplay then work, i just think it'd be a good idea that u can better yourself :).

It's a good idea. If you have a good roleplay it will be possible to implement such items I think. But that will only work when the new client is online and the new e-mail system as Wegdrodel said.

I hate the way i don't understand spells, i know that if i want to do all spells i should have put more points into intelligence and stuff. But when i started i didn't know what each stat did and if i had known what they did i would have changed things. I think that yuou should be able to gain more stats like intelligence when you do heaps of spells. You can incorporate this into roleplaying because people in real life do progress in intelligence as they get older.

well Caranthirs idea is very clever actually! you see the attempt to mine
30 000 ore and their fingers fall off, no more powergamers! but I like
his idea about that

I think, that's a bad idea for this game.

There are already numerous people, who are masters in almost every skill.

With the possibility to raise your attributes, the reformed magic system will also be useless, because every warrior with maxed strenght, constitution and dexterity could practice powergaming until he has also max intelligence.
And so on with all other attributes.

Then, there would be even more "Superheroes" than there already are. :(

When such thing should be implemented, it should work that way:

You train a lot the activity, that raises the striven skill and when your are ready, you can raise one attribute point, BUT you have to lower another one.
So, the balance will be preserved.

--------------------

:) Skills are skills. But there is a way. Just make it like ordinary RPG. Use experience points or bars. When we kill a monster we get experience and that experience can be traded to something that can raise our stat.

and to reduce powergaming, maybe we can make like this. if we mine iron and coal to 30k we get extra strength but reduced on agility and if we only doing reading we raise our inteligence but reduced our strength or something like that.

Actually getting stats raised is a good idea. I am a mage but I can not castsome spells cause I did not set max on intl. And watching people using strong spell makes me feel envy.

And I got another idea. Why not adding special skills. Like a master in tailoring can join a master carpenter can make something together. Skills that only can be made by combining 2 mastered skills or onlycan be made by 2 different person.

And the NPC, please use another design. They are NPC not players. It feels strange buying items from human that carry a Shield and Sword.

And can we change our colours ? Sometimes i want to see me in red or black cloths =P. Or anything to make everyone has something different from other. It is kind of creepy seeing a lot of char look like mine. :)

More graphics would be more work for the server and the programmers. All in all I think this topic begins to become senseless because everybody repeats what other people have already said.

In that way

to those not so intelligent mages... i suggest you wear a topaz ring - you will feel the difference immediately ;-) - it raises intelligence or something that is connected to intelligence and dont tell me that i am wrong - for i know what i am talking about.

Also, here's another idea for getting smart enough to cast spells. Isn't it true that mages would be literate in their studies. So wouldn't it be better if the library skills would take along time to max, and just base the magic on that. So you would have a well teached mage. In all the books i read, well Lord of the Rings in particular. Gandalf was a very wise wizard (mage), he was very literate at that. Dunno just another idea :).

If stats do raise some should lower so you cant have every stat maxed, so there wont be any ridiculously powerful 'superheros' as Sharag put it.

Also the points you give your chars when making a char are limited to stop you from having maxed stats. I am not being disrespectful to anyone but this idea could be abused at too great a level.

Who said anything bout exp points. And i do agree with khanor with that reply. But just think bout the library, its so unused these days, shouldn't it be filled with mages? If mages was properly roleplaying right. They would spend alot of time in there, for it is said knowledge is power. And spells alot of times are noted as power. It was kinda unfair for the old players that was mages and had low intellagence, and can't cast spells. I don't mean to be merging chars or anything but i must prove a point, silentgun has two topaz rings and still can't cast worth anything cept fire fields, thats all. I think gurok told me the same about him. Though he can't even cast fire fields. We've stayed on illarion a long time, it feels like our old chars are getting cut off :(.

I posted an idea for using the library on another thread.  I think that it would fit into what you are talking about with mages researching in the library.  I suggested that some of the books be written in different languages such as elvish, orcish, dwarvish . . .  A character only knows their own racial language but can learn others from NPCs.  A great opportunity for quests and such.
If more books were added and a few new spells which could be only learned by reading books along with a harder library research skill and books written in different languages which mages must learn,  being a mage would be much harder and closer to how they are depicted in fantasy books.  The important part would be to make these quests pretty hard and somehow keep the older mages from just telling all the secrets to every person who comes along.  Or maybe just nobody but their protege.
Anyways, just a quick thought.

it will not max your intelligence - but perhaps you will be able to cast a spell you that seldom works or it may give you one additional spell - i don´t know. you will have to try out.
