The money tree - Something to help the poor players.
I suggest that an idea be implemented like the one below. There could be a tree somewhere in town, possibly in or around the shop. Money or items could be submitted to the tree, along with a the name of the person who donated the item/money.
People could only take money or an item once a day and it would create a more equal Illarionite society....
I know the idea is VERY sketchy, but could, I believe be implemented.
Please post your ideas and refinements.

P.s... What did everyone think of the concert?

First of all, we had to trust each other.Quote: from Ashag on 12:43 pm on June 12, 2002

Otherwise, the answer to your question is already given in the idea: Everybody may only get something once a day. And this doesn't really pay for a stronger older character, that could get these items or money faster.
Additionally, players shouldn't carry their old plate armors and fireswords to the tree, but useful things, like tools or low-level equipment.
In my eyes a good idea, although, I don't think, that too many people would participate.
The money tree
Maybe it could be a good idea for helping newbies in a game.
But it makes no sense in roleplay whatsoever.

I like the idea too, but I really don't think many people would participate. Think about it, we have maybe 200 people who would take from the tree in the course of a day. That would mean we would have to have an equal (or greater) number of donations. If we could solve that, it would work.

The idea of this game is to make people roleplay. If you just give htem stuff all they learn is to be successful you need to be lazy.

Interesting idea. As for the roleplaying aspect, beggars (aka newbies like me :) are a part of real life, as is charity. As an incentive for players to give there could be a new skill / trait called "charity" or "generosity". This could affect a players overall alignment. Just a thought.
The money tree
Bad idea. Newbies are getting enough Help from other players. Nobody needs such a tree. It is not very difficult to earn some money, but you have to do something for it and that is better than getting items for nothing.

i agree with you wolin
at certain daytimes at the minig fields there are so many things thrown away - i made a sport and did collect them - within 20 min i had 238 ores, 123 coal, 4 chainmail plate, 23 regular shields, 7 hellebards. a money tree is not needed - in my opinion - player who throw things away should get a penalty. that is my version of the money tree

I agree too.
The economy and inventory as it is with the players now will eventually reach it roof. I mean, everyday people get more and more trained in blacksmithing, how much time will it take before they can make the best items ? How much time will it take for someone to be charitable and give some of these good items away ? Eventually, as I foresee it, the economy will come to a slow stop as everyone gets the best items. That is, however, a worst case scenario.

I think, you are all forgetting, that each player may get something only ONCE a day. You can't get rich this way and it really could help newbies.
Additionally, this could even lower the support, that people get, whose main activity is to beg the whole day.
Everybody, who is asked for help, can tell to go to the tree. So, he can be sure, that he doesn't give help to someone, who really doesn't need it, because he is begging the whole day, while he already has numerous items or is even rich himself.

Well, I think the tree idea is a little unrealistic...
Speaking strictly on charity though, people like to help. That's a good thing. But it's just important to remember that if we're going to be realistic, we can't run around saying, "Ah look, a new face... Welcome to the island! Come with me, I'll get you the best of the best of everything there is to own." The most I ever give to someone new is some low grade armor, maybe a weapon, and I don't do that often as it is. I do however, always try to give tools to someone new if they want them. I don't think everyone should have no choice but to mine and smith until they can afford to do something else. A waif of an elven girl new to the island armed with only her love of baking isn't going to mine coal to buy her grain and scythe. And now for the inevitable cliché:
Give a man a fish, and feed him for a day.
Teach a man to fish, and then he'll stop bugging you because he'll be too busy fishing.
Ok, that's not quite how it goes, but you get the drift.

ive notice the blacksmithing part. How about if you make is so that the books in the library will continue once you choose to do that item.
ex. baking:
you baked bread, very basic. after that you reach the point where you "think" you can do more than just bread, maybe cakes instead. so you go into the library, find the book again about baking, and it will continue telling you new items. it will tell you what the name is and then how to make this item. once you get all the needed things to make the "cake" you start to make it and it gives you the choise again. instead of the new traits just poping up. due to the fact you researched in the library. now you have another choise of cupcakes and big cakes.
once your ablility is higher again....you go back, and see if you can do more items like...
a better dough product.
ex. in smithing:
the new armor cant just pop up. when your ablilitys get high. you must go back to the library and find the book about smithing....this time it wil be a little longer, with new items names and use and for this case....the items needed is always ore of iron and coal.
does anyone understand what i said? ?

ok, i would like to say, the money tree is kind of like on christmas when there are trees at places where you donate to orphans or the poor. (no offence) but i rather not have that idea. people is kind as they are, and like they said, it is easily worked for.
.....some times maybe in the future, you can put items on a holiday so everyone would have a surprise! so illarion gods make a tree that has......oh lets say it was christmas.....and the gods decided to put a red coat on a tree. every player that gets on can go to the tree and get the christmas coat!
what about burying treasures? shovel on ground = pit. put things in pit and cover, remember where you put it! you can even go treasure hunting!
or you can hide things in trees! you get the idea.

Hey instead oh a tree how about a Church. The chuch can let people donate money and items for the poor. and I think we need a Wizard guid. I think the guild should be hidden in a forest and only people with wizzard skills can get to it. The guild would vote for a Strong wizzard to be head of the guild. and you can have some runes in there. so what do you think?

Well first of all if this idea were put into effect, i don't think it should be a tree. This is supposed to be realistic and how many trees do you know that hold and donate items. The church is a very good idea as there probably wern't food banks and homeless shelters in the fantasy/role play/medeivel period we have. And secondly, i don't think the idea has much merit to it. You can search around and find plenty of stuff on the ground(which isn't supposed to be there!) and the whole point is to work and improve. This isn't like real life where you absolutely need money to buy food shelter and clothes. In fact, you can make everything you could need in illarion(except for spellbooks)and never acually touch a single pice of gold. The money tree would be a good idea if money or charity was a nessecity. But it isn't. There are no taxes, fines, living expenses that need to be paid so you don't even need an income! sure money makes it easier, and if you want it that bad, do a little smithing and you can get easy money that way.
The money tree
I think that to get money from the tree you should have to complete a fairly easy quest so ten at least it wont be begging
