Ghost Movement - new movement system

Post by Astral »

When you die, you turn into a ghost.  As ghosts hover above the ground, I do not think that their speed should be affected by walking over different terrain since they dont touch the ground.  I also think that ghosts should be able to hover over water freely.  This could be implemented in the future.  I think this would be realistic.

I don't think they should hover over water though. After all, the water does act as a border to what doesn't exist on the map yet.

forget your water-fantasies. they won't be implemented for obvious reasons.
there will be enough changes in the near future (at least i think so), there are e.g. several *thousands* of new graphics on my harddisk and i guess that at least a few of them will be in game in the next month (=new items, better gfx, ...).

Hovering faster, yes, I like that.

Hovering over water, yes, but not going to happen.  check my reply in the walking over water post and you'll see why.

an addition, walk through walls.   Also not going to happen, but a good thought to keep in mind.  reason, same as above.

i guess there are really much more important things to implement.
why don't you just accept it the way it is? learn to "live" (hehehe) with it. did you ever write a letter to <don't know who> complaining about gravity and suggesting to change the density of water at 14 °C because you want to be able to swim without being forced to move? i assume not. ;)

it's a physical law of illarion, that even ghosts cannot swim.

The graphic does suggest that they hover above the ground, therefore rough terrain should not affect their movement.  Just like jagged rocks:  a car has difficulty crossing them, but a plane has no difficulty.  This is what the graphic suggests anyways.  Unless it really shows a snowball like shape rolling across the ground .  Even if the water thing is out, this is a serious issue of reality, everything else is so realistic and fine tuned (well, almost everything) in the game.

Movement speed over all kinds of ground should be the same for ghosts in the future (except water or other barriers).
