poem anonymus

Post by Phelix Vierwind »

Hiding and crouching, a human shape passes the town wall and leaves this note in a labourious calligraphy as fast as the wind.

To De'am...

The attaching of my heart is thin,
confusing is the beat,
creator of new worlds within,
you're taking feelings lead.

No hint to the author can be found on this note.

The needle flashes in and out of the folds of cloth as De'am winds the thread through the edge of a torn cloak. She slides her hand into the bag at her side, only to be disappointed that there are no more cherries left. She pauses for a moment, then sticks the needle in the cloth and lays it in her depot before standing up from her seat.

As she passes the wall on the way to the cherry tree, she takes a few idle glances at the posted messages. As it happens, the sight of her own name catches her attention, and she stops short to take a better look. De'am blinks in surprised curiosity as she reads the message, and looks again to be certain. She glances around her out of instinct, as if the poster may still be nearby, but no one is to be seen. She looks at the pinned note again and pauses to think. Suddenly she blinks again and turns back to the depot. From the depot De'am draws out an ink bottle, a quill, and several pieces of parchment. She holds up a number of pieces individually to the sunlight and finally chooses a very thin, delicate sheet. Returning to the wall, she places the parchment carefully over the note. With delicate scrutiny, De'am traces the calligraphy, both as a script and an image. She completes the tracing and brings it up closer to her as she studies it. De'am holds it next to various notes over the span of the wall, but for the moment is uncertain of any definite similar matches. She finally rolls up the copy with care and continues her walk to the cherry tree, leaving the original note undisturbed.
